Free Music Review: Attempts to exploit
Hit: 3 Stars

Although there are still enough crests of certifiable synthesizer beauty, this ode to the new wa-80's walks the line between inspired emulations and cheesy imitations all too often, feeling light around the edges in favor of an all-encompassing aesthetic theme that seems less inviting then before.

Free Music Review: M83
Hit: 3 Stars

The sound of this album is very different than what I tend to listen to. It has an eclectic feel. It's very Indie. Overall it is fairly good.

Free Music Review: DREAMLIKE
Hit: 2 Stars

This is my first album from M83, but certainly not the first time I've heard Morgan Kibby's heavenly, dreamy vocals (from her band THE ROMANOVS).

Like the title for my review suggests, this album is very dreamlike. By that I mean that when we go to sleep and dream there are some parts that make sense, that fit, that were enjoyable to dream about. And then there are parts that we're like, "um, okay, that doesn't make any sense/I'd sooner wake up and forget I dreamt that."

Out of 11 tracks on this album there were only 4 that really stood out for me.

The first was "You, Appearing" with its nice piano intro, after which some spacy background sounds and soothing vocals, male and female, merge in.

The highlight of the whole album (for me, at least), is track 3, "Skin of the Night". Again the piano intro, but it's Morgan Kibby's sweet breathy voice singing the ROMANOVS-esque lyrics that really make this track a winner with me.

"Couleurs" is very long, clocking in at over 8 minutes, but the soft techno beat is nice although it is a bit repetitive. A good track to chill out to.

The last half of "We Own the Sky" is also a bit repetitive, but sweetly so, again thanks to Morgan Kibby.

The booklet has the lyrics with a very photogenic person on each page.

Overall this album definitely has a soft techno and 80s feel to it, which is definitely a good thing. Don't be put off too much by my two star rating. It's basically just to let you know that you'll like a handful of songs, but don't expect to like all eleven of them.

Free Music Review: Poised to take on the world ..then stumble..
Hit: 2 Stars

Last year, they were at the top of their game.. now we see with the release of Saturdays=Youth, M83 is more of a one trick pony, then the wunderkind band that we were supposed to believe they were... hey, it's a good solid album, but offers very little in depth from their previous releases.. I was really looking forward to growth and development, but even the samples (vocal bits, etc) were the same.. c'mon boys, get some more source material.. we already heard about the girl driving with her mom.. what comes next? We're patiently waiting..
