Free Music Review: This could be a 6/5... But it has many flaws.

When I saw this, and then I saw that only 7,000 Copies had been made, I HAD to pick this up A.S.A.P.
This CD has some insanely tight beat's, but unfortunatly the bad mixes outweighs the good, and probably half of them you will skip.
When you ask what is wrong, first let me get to the good first...
The beat's are very creative, there is so many styles mixed in here, it is hard to count. I dig the Jazz beat's an abstract beat's too. Some of thease instrumentals are excellent, and you can hear song's in your head when listening to them. There is also lot's of subtle samples put in there that are quiet, an toned down, but have a big impact on the mixed...
Now to the bad...
I produce my own rap instrumental', so maybe I notice more, but alot of MF's beat's are extremely muddy... The mixing is horrible on some of the song's, and simply not acceptable, and he does not seem so Proficient on the MPC, as you can sometimes hear him going off beat.
More than half the song's are skippable at best. Some have just such horrible mixing, and mastering ( and yes you master beat's too ) That for at least me it seem's horrible, but then the next song will be mixed beutifully, it makes no sence, the lack of consistancy. Also some of the beat's are so weird you wonder if it is even possible to spit to thease.
Now to the other stuff that probably wont matter much to you...
The Box Art...
The front is pretty tight...
He is using an mpc, an holding a joint with a plant in front of him.
There is no booklet, instead all the song;s are printed on the inside of the case.
The graphics on the CD's is cool, but simple. It shows an MPC on it, an say's which disc it is.
Contrary to what you think, there isnt like 8 disc's in here, it is three.
The first 2 holding all the song's from all the other MF instrumental album's. An the 3rd holding 10 unreleased track's...
Also it say's that doom Produced, an Mixed all of it by himself which is impressive. I like there only 3 disc's, so Disc swapping is put to a minimum.
Overall I say this compilation is a 3.5, and a good buy.
This will show you that MF has the ability to make top teir beat's, but at other times he is a crappy producer at best.
Sure he will never be no Dr. Dre, RZA, or Lil Jon in the producing game, but he is a great rapper, an lyricist, that has the ability to make unique beutifull beat's, an mix them all by himself, which is very immpressive.
Overall I would say, if you love Doom as the rapper, or you wnat some good instrumental's... Get this. You may be dissapointed at first, with the bad mixes outweighing the good ones. but there is diamond's in the ruff hidden within this CD.
Also only 7,000 of thease are being made, so pick one up now! Or they will be gone...
Plus im guessing like other Doom CD's, once this becomes scarce the value of it will skyrocket. Just look at Doomsday, it goes for $50 used.
