This was a great album featuring songs Mac wrote himself. The title track to the album as well as other great songs such as "The Trouble With Diamonds," "Only Passing Through," "Weight of the World," and "All These Years" are well featured on this album. You might like it if you give it a chance.
Live and Learn Poster
Knots don't jump out at you. You could listen to it once or twice and write it off as a sweet but sleepy singer-songwriter exercise. Listen closely, though, and you'll discover that a song like "Something of Myself," despite its Garth Brooks-like declaration "I wanna make something of myself," is really a wicked satire of all those dreamers too lazy to get off the couch. "Take It Easy" at first seems like a preachy song about old-fashioned values, but listen again and you'll find it's actually a sly satire on the impossibility of ever knowing anything about love. Not all 10 songs on the album contain such surprises; a handful are every bit as sentimental and slight as they first appear. The majority, though, are as smart and witty as anything being written in Nashville these days. --Geoffrey HimesCountry Music CDs
