Free Music Review: This is a awesome CD
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD is funky, fun, soulful. It sometimes sounds like
Rufus in the 70's. The it will sound like Al Green but
overall it is a unique album from a unique artists. There
is really no way to describe her music. All I can say is you
feel the fun that went into recording it. It you want something
different-GET THIS CD

Free Music Review: THE TROUBLE WITH BEING THIS ALBUM...
Hit: 3 Stars

...is that it succeeds as a standard 'next' album, when the euphoria of a highly successful previous score (On How Life Is) has set in and we can roll right along with more music. BUT, it offers little to match the pizzazz of "I TRY".

There is no doubt in my mind that Gray is one of the most distinctive soul voices around but with the idiosyncratic nuances of her "style" that harkens back to Sly Stone of yore, she really needs some variety on a record...or, as happens in the case of The Troube With Myself she runs the risk of being a little, er, monotonous?

If you don't mind a SIDE B to the first album then this is a pretty decent compilation of husky vocals and jiggly hiphop. But, like me, if you expected something offbeat or at least a slightly different streak from her past music, there's deplorably little here. (Unless of course you count in some REALLY zany numbers like "My fondest childhood memories".)

To cut it short, I'd say Gray's latest is quite a worthy chill-out purchase to sit back in your balcony with, but not a standout effort by any stretch of review.

Noteworthy number: "Happiness". You'll be humming it immediately.

Free Music Review: Great singer needs songs
Hit: 3 Stars

Nearly every stupid movie a few years ago used "I Try" in its ads and trailers. The singer totally ruled, and so did the song. The girl needs more good songs. Most of the ist album, The Id, and now this -- nice, if not totally energetic band and arrangements, great Macy singing, but not much in the way of melodies, lyrics, creativity in the songs. Her songs with Fatboy Slim and on 8 Mile were better. Macy, all kinds of people would love to write you songs. Reach out.

Free Music Review: I am so very GRAYteful
Hit: 5 Stars

Alright, I'll admit it. I wasn't a fan of Ms. Gray until I saw her promoting her second album, The Id on the Rosie O'Donnell Show. She sang You Are Relating To A Psychopath, and right then and there I was hooked. I fell in love with her lovable zaniness. How Can't You?

As it turns out, I became a huge fan and I have gotten all of her singles. And I have been waiting for this, her third album, to come out to stores. I'm happy to say that this is the best yet!

Die-hard fans like MYSELF will be pleased with her usual, though never tiring and always inventive mix of "What was that?!" and "Oh my gawd, I love that song!" She starts it all out right with "When I See You," which you can't help but love. It shows her vulnerability in a funk-a-rific party jam. Now, I know you'll love that, but soon enough, it gets better, believe it or not. "It ain't the money," which features Beck and Pharoahe Monch is easily my favorite track. It is such a fun track that isn't so typical of Macy. Midway through, she sings "Betcha givin' head to a movie star, Betcha got a llama riding in your car . . ." In a very Beegee-esque sort of way. And Beck, who I'm not overly familiar with, adds to the fun.

"Come Together" is also a great song on her disc. When I first saw the track, it brought to mind the Beatles song. I was very wrong, in the best way. This is an easy-going fun loving song that brings to mind "I Can't Wait To Meetchu" from her debut album. It's a great song! And then there's "She don't write songs about you" with some of Macy's better lyrics on the disc. It's a great song that is very different from the rest. She says, "...Even when it's cold and dark outside, inside the sexy people screamin' that they love me cause I'm Macy Gray..."
And the track that will have everyone talking: "My Fondest Childhood Memories." In it, Macy talks about killing off her babysitter and the plumber because the "sexed" her parents, which she says are "happily married thanks to me." It's a pleasant surprise to see Macy doing this, as it is latin flavored.

In a close run with "It aint the Money," "Speechless" takes a second place for me. She again has some great lyrics I only dream of coming up with. "l.o.v.e. don't sum it up for me / it's much m.o.r.e than any word could mean." It has the sense of vulnerability I've come to love about Macy.

And in "Screamin'," Macy finds herself in her most comfortable spot, with her happy-go-lucky back-up singers.

Alright, I'll admit it. I'm 15, gay, and from a small town in MN. But this CD is certainly universal, there's no doubt about that. Macy is in my mind the greatest singer of her time. She talks about subjects that everyone can relate to and shows her vulnerability mixes in quite well with her unique craziness. My advise: buy this CD, you won't regret it. You'll be jamming all summer

Happy Listening!

Free Music Review: Macy to a "T"
Hit: 5 Stars

The new album is classic Macy Gray, it's got everything that made you fall in love with Macy on her debut album, On How Life Is! It's got the upbeat intro song, "When I See You," like "Why Didn't You Call Me" on the debut album. There's also a downtempo love song, "She Ain't Right For You," like "I Try," and a crazy (story) song, "My Fondest Childhood Memories," like "I've Committed Murder."

If you fell in love with Macy from the moment she asked, "Why Didn't You Call Me??" until she read "The Letter," then you should definitely pick up this album! You'll remember why you love her.
