Free Music Notes for The Very Best of Macy GrayFree Music Review: a satisfying greatest hits collection Hit: 5 StarsI must admit I was a little surprised when Macy Gray decided to release a Greatest Hits CD. After only three studio albums, I was more hoping for an album of new material, but on the contrary we now have a Best of Collection spanning the years 1999 to 2004. Each one of the twelve actual hits is a treasure in its own right. This is a woman with an extraordinary voice whose every song has become a top reaching hit either in the United States or abroad. The selection is very satisfying and shows the ever-strengthening progressive pattern of the singer's immense gift of talent. This is a CD that should be on everyone's CD shelf. Absolute favorites include "I Try", "Still", "Sweet Baby", "When I See You", and "She Ain't Right For You". In addition to the hits, the disc includes one cover of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way", three remixes and also "Demons". The music is genuine and heartwarming and the voice is powerfully soothing and comforting....a true Must-Have!
Free Music Review: Great Release Hit: 5 StarsMacy Gray is an extremely talented artist with the most unique voice in the history of the industry. This greatest hits collection is great because it not only includes her biggest singles ("Do Something", "I Try", "Sweet Baby" & "Why Didn't You Call Me), but it also includes no music ("Walk This Way"), and some of her best material that was just never released as a single but were just great songs (her best work to date, "Still" & "Boo"). With witty lyrics and an intelligent delivery, Macy proved to be a artist that really could go above what was expected of your average pop artist. Pick up this release.
Free Music Review: A cool best of collection! Hit: 5 StarsMacy Gray is unique----her look, her sound, her songs. This best of collection is a welcome addition to my cd library. Of course, her biggest hit, "I Try" is included (along with a club remix of the song) as well as singles from her other cds. The main reason I bought this cd, however, is "Love's Gonna Get You", which was the theme song to the charming but unfortunately cancelled show MISS MATCH starring Alicia Silverstone (Shame on you NBC---that was a good show!) I really like this song and was stunned to find it was a part of this set of songs. I looked everywhere for a copy of the song when the show was still on the peacock network but never had any luck. Its a great song and I can't stop listening to it! Macy fans will be pleased with this "best of" cd as well as new fans, who may be giving Macy a first listen. A fun cd, worth buying!
Free Music Review: Wacky, but fantastic (for the most part)... Hit: 4 StarsA Greatest Hits album after only 3 studio releases? Hmmm... I have to admit that I raised an eyebrow when I first heard that Ms. Gray was going to release a 'Best Of' compilation. And I'm sure I wasn't the only one. Still, I can't deny the fact that the songs (well, most of them) are excellent and speak for themselves. Macy, with her 'Billie Holliday meets Donald Duck' voice, is certainly one of the most unique artists in music history (which is really what makes her so stunning). Her music is, like always, set to catchy (and rather refreshing) 70's style groove and soul. Say what you want, but where Macy never fails is knowing how to make people move and groove. Lyrically, she can, of course, be outrageous. Yet again, this is what makes Macy so interesting. This album won't see big numbers, but it does contain a lot of hit worthy material. Best tracks are 'I Try' 'Sweet Baby' 'When I See You' 'Still' and 'Do Something.' Songs like 'Sexual Revolution' and 'I've Committed Murder' are too far out for my tastes. The biggest thing from this collection is a club mix of Macy's signature hit 'I Try.' Why Sony decided to make this glaring exclusion truly confuses me.
