Free Music Notes for I'm Going to Tell You a Secret (W/Dvd)Free Music Review: It's Called The Dancefloor And Here's What It's For Hit: 5 Stars
How many musical performers can you name that have been in show business for almost a quarter century, can still sell out a concert at top dollar, and do it in record time? There are only a handful, and one of them is the always changing, rearranging Madonna. Since the Michigan-born performer was first heard in the clubs, on the radio, seen on MTV, movie screens and became a household name in 1983, she has been racking up gold and platinum albums, and selling out one venue after another with her unique extravaganzas that always push the envelope. Love her or hate her, there's no gray area with Lady Madge and her mind-blowing catalogue of 36 #1 dance songs. And for the most part, this is what this CD is all about - the dance - and as Madonna famously sings, "It's called the dancefloor and here's what it's for." Fourteen tracks comprise this disc with radio and club hits including "Vogue," "Like A Prayer," a powerful version of "Susan MacLeod/Into The Groove," the James Bond theme "Die Another Day," the universal "Music," the song that put her on the map, "Holiday," and a smashing demo version of "I Love New York" from her latest studio album, Confessions On A Dancefloor. The biggest surprise for me was her incredibly moving version of the John Lennon staple "Imagine." If you ever thought Madonna's vocals could use some anti-freeze, this rendition that prays for hope, peace and love will thaw out any preconceived notions you may have ever carried about her. I'm not typically a fan of live albums, but every so often a performer comes along and surprises me with versions of their songs that sometimes leapfrog the originals. I'm not saying every single song on this disc does that, but for the most part, I found this CD to be pleasantly shocking. But isn't that word synonymous with her Madge-estry anyway? The one thing that has always enhanced the sound of Madonna is the sight of Madonna. This is where the always-thinking Marketability Girl comes in with a DVD companion of her live stage performances of ten songs. All the songs listed on the companion CD are here with the exception of two songs from "Confessions," "Into The Groove" and "Die Another Day." But don't despair, the visuals are so incredible, she'll make you forget there's a record bin of songs that aren't included. For that, I suggest you take a peek into her back catalogue and realize this is her best live performance on video since her "Blonde Ambition Tour" 15 years ago. Yes, Madonna is almost 48 years old, but judging from this collection, she makes looking towards the future a bit brighter, while dreading your subscription offer from AARP.
Free Music Review: A Kinder Gentler Madonna Hit: 5 Stars
So Many people are Comparing Madonna's "Tell you a secret" Documentary to her "truth or dare" documentary and most are saying that they like truth or dare better. Thats really a shame and shows you the negative state that the world is in these days(which "secret" actually seems to address). First off these documentaries couldnt be further apart but I think the new Documentary really shows how far Madonna has Grown Both Professionaly and as a Human Being. truth or dare , while Yes, in some ways was More entertaining and yes was more comical, also showed what a Spoiled, Immature and Inconsiderate person Madonna was back in those days. Dont get me wrong, I have always loved Madonna but back in her early days, she wasnt a nice person and she admits that herself. The New Movie has alot of special moments, Madonna, with her children, husband, father are really great moments that show a tender side of Madonna. and While some people are turned off by Madonna's talking about kabala, I find it fascinating how religion has changed this woman and I think that at least with this Documentary, madonna does have something important to say and that there are a great deal of Positive messages in this film as aopposed to truth or dare. My favorite part of the film is when Madonna is in a prayer circle for her last concert with her dancers and she talks about how one of the dancers(i think his name is sean) she actually cut during the auditions but when she saw him crying in the hallway, she changed her mind and hired him for the tour, that one act right there shows you how far she has come as a human being, the old madonna never would have done that. In fact, in truth or dare, she didnt seem to care about her dancers at all, usually berated and made fun of them(a couple of the dancers in truth or dare actually SUED madonna because she didnt pay them for the documentary footage), she treats her dancers alot different in this film. I also like the part when during one of her concerts she Praises MICHAEL MOORE and dedicates a song to him, this was brave to do because back in 2004, it was risky to praise Michael Moore During a Concert, Linda Ronstadt did the same thing and got kicked out of the Las Vegas Hotel she was playing at! it doesnt surprise me that this dvd/cd hasnt sold well(debuted on billboard at #33 and in its second week plunged to #107) while the truth or dare dcoumentary was a huge hit. lets face it sex and sleaze will always sell. This Documentary, all you get is positive messages and Spiritual growth, Oh well!
Free Music Review: MADONNA, AFTER 25 YEARS STILL THE QUEEN OF POP AND CONTROVERSY... Hit: 5 Stars
HI THERE! I AM MEXICAN SO HOPE YOU FORGIVE MY OCASSIONAL LANGUAGE FLOPS :). I STILL HAVEN'T BOUGHT THIS CD/DVD SET, ALTHOUGH HAD THE CHANCE TO WATCH THE LATIN AMERICAN BROADCAST OF THE "I'M GOING TO TELL YOU A SECRET" DOCUMENTARY, EVEN TAPE-RECORDED IT AND BEEN WATCHING IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN SINCE MIDDLE APRIL...
YOU CAN EITHER LOVE OR HATE MADONNA... SHE HAS NEVER BEEN THE GREATEST FEMALE POP VOICE, YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO KAREN CARPENTER, ELLA FITZGERALD, WHITNEY HOUSTON, EVEN CHRISTINA AGUILERA IN ORDER TO LISTEN TO GREAT VOICES. BUT HERE IS WHERE MADONNA GETS SEPARATED FROM THE REST: THE WOMAN HAS YET A LOT TO SAY!!!! I HAD THE CHANCE TO WATCH HER LIVE IN "REINVENTION TOUR" THE OPENING NIGHT...
LIP-SYNCING OR NOT, SHE IS STILL AND WILL BE THE MOST IMPORTANT AND INFLUENTIAL FEMALE STAR EVER...
LOVED THE VOGUE, AMERICAN LIFE, LIKE A PRAYER PERFORMANCES ON THE DOCUMENTARY. BUT WHAT REALLY CAUGHT MY ATTENTION IS TO SEE A 45 YEARS OLD WOMAN AWAY FROM ALL THE SEX AND EROTICA PERIOD CONTROVERSY, AND STILL MANAGING HERSELF TO CREATE A LOT OF DIVERSITY OF OPINIONS: KABAHLA, RELIGION, THE LIVE TO TELL CONFESSIONS TOUR SET, ETC ETC. BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING:
THE ONLY ONE WOMAN ABLE TO REACH THE NEW YORK TIMES # 1 BEST SELLER LIST WITH BOTH "SEX" (1992 AND THE ENGLISH ROSES BOOKS....
THE ONLY ONE SINGER REACHING THE TOP OF BILLBOARD'S HOT 100 WITH SUCH A SULTRY AND CONTROVERSIAL SONG LIKE "JUSTIFY MY LOVE" AND THEN GETTING THERE AGAIN WITH THE LOVELY BALLAD"TAKE A BOW" OR A GREAT DANCE TRACK LIKE "MUSIC".
MADONNA, MORE THAN JUST A SINGER: THE VOICE OF 3 WHOLE GENERATIONS OF FANS.
IT DOESN'T MATTER IF SHE SINGS LIVE OR NOT ,WHICH BY THE WAY SHE DOES 90% OF THE LIVE CONCERT.
IT DOESN'T MATTER IF SHE CAN RHYME "YORK" WITH "DORK" IN HER MOST RECENT ALBUM (I LOVE NEW YORK)
WHAT REALLY MATTERS IS THAT SHE STILL STILL DOING GREAT POP MUSIC... JUST LISTEN TO THE BEAUTIFUL "GET TOGETHER"... STILL SELLING MILLIONS OF MILLIONS OF RECORDS AND INFLUENCING MILLIONS OF LIFES WORLDWIDE WITH THE POWER OF HER MUSIC AND OPINIONS.
AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, 36 TOP TEN USA HITS, 170 MILLIONS SOLD WORLWIDE, MADONNA IS STILL THE GREATEST.....
LONG LIVE MADONNA, QUEEN OF CONTEMPORARY POP!!!
Free Music Review: What a beautiful "Secret" it is Hit: 5 Stars
I last saw Madonna live on June 15th at Chicago's United Center on her latest trek titled "Confessions Tour". This cd makes me relive those memories all over again. I also had the privilege of seeing Madonna on the Re-Invention Tour in Atlanta Ga. I think the sound quality on the cd in this package rivels that of the concert itself. Trully wonderful mastering. They managed to keep the integrity of the tour's sound and the essence that made the tour so special. Yes, the visuals and special effects were great on Re-Invention, and they are just as good if not better on the Confessions Tour, but what it all comes down too is the music. After all it wouldn't be a tour without music, right? The music on this disc in incredible, and yes there are a few songs missing, but I'm not here to speak about what isn't there...that would be a waste of a good review. And as for the documentary, that get's 5 out of 5 stars as well. I am also a student of Kabbalah, and this documentary manages to capture the very essence of the changes one goes through as a true student. The method of application is pure genius, the message--pure love, and the quality is second to none. Thank you Madonna, for sharing with us another great addition to your already extensive catalog of pure entertainment. Madonna knows how to keep her fans trully entertained, and this set makes me proud to say to everyone--I AM A MADONNA FAN!!!
Free Music Review: Reliving (parts of) the show all over again! Hit: 5 Stars
I was fortunate enough to get to see Madonna's Re-Invention show live in Chicago back in 2004. It was my first time to see her live and this tour will always have a soft spot in my heart for that reason. I was VERY fortunate enough to have a front row seat to her Confessions Tour and it reflects alot of Re-Invention in methods of styling and delivery. The documentary does convery a very special message once you get past all of the tour hype and such and actually get into the "meat" of the film. I remember watching it on MTV with my brother and once the final credit had rolled, we were left in silence... nothing to say... it actually makes you THINK. The main I reason I wanted this though was for the cd portion of the package. This was her best sounding show even if she did have help with pre-recorded vocals and electronic voice augmentation.. it's the digital era.. get used to it people... The backing vocals were there only as a safeguard for when she has to catch her breath between dance moves and incase a mic fails.. smart thinking if you ask me... the sound quality of the cd is EXCELLENT... expecially if you play it on a high end car system or home theater system. I REALLY hope Confessions gets a proper DVD release as well as hopefully the full Re-Invention... I found my copy of "Secret" at best buy for 17.99 :)
