Free Music Notes for Like a Virgin

Free Music Review: Excellent 80's pop
Hit: 5 Stars

Following the success of her excellent debut record, Madonna took things a step further by calling on one of the best producers/musicians in R&B/Dance music, Nile Rodgers of Chic. It was an inspired choice judging by the songs and performances on "Like A Virgin". Utilizing the Chic rhythm section on the whole album, Madonna and Rodgers crafted a unique and signature sound that firmly established her as a pop icon. "Material Girl", "Angel", "Dress You Up" and the title track were all top five hits and still sound after more than a decade and a half since they were first released. Even non-hits like "Over And Over", and "Stay" are strong tracks. A nice bonus to this newly(and very well)remastered edition are the original 12" versions of "Like A Virgin" and "Material Girl" remixed by John "Jellybean" Benitez. I hope one day WEA will consider releasing all of the original 12"'s on CD(hope you guys read this!). Madonna of course not one to stay in one place for any long period of time, began the first of many amazing musicial and stylistic changes, this album is still one of the best pop albums of the 80's.

Free Music Review: Classic Madonna
Hit: 5 Stars

This was the album that turned Madonna into a star. The first album was good, but this is a definite improvement.

1. Material Girl- One of her signature songs. Also one of her catchiest, even if it's quintissential 80's A

2. Angel- A nice song. Kinda dumb, but great music and singing. B+

3. Like A Virgin- THE signature song. It is always really fun to listen to, and has the point that even Britney's first didn't. A

4. Over And Over- My favorite song on the album. Definitely made for the clubs, and one you can't help but dance to. A+

5. Love Don't Live Her Anymore- Not a song many Madonna fans will like, but I love it. Her vocals are the best on this song, and a very soulful take. A-

6. Dress You Up- A little too dumb, but other than that, it is flawless. B

7. Shoo-Be-Do- Perhaps the worst song, even though it's still very nice, and easy to relax to. B-

8. Pretender- It's a very good song, but extremely forgettable. My least favorite song. C

9. Stay- A great way to end the album. The chorus will be in your mind long after the song has stopped playing. A-

This is THE Madonna album to have. If you don't know which album to get first, get this one.

Free Music Review: Introducing "Madonna" - Sophmore Explosion !!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I gave my review this particular title because, as successful as her debut album was, 'Like a Virgin', produced by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers, is the LP that put Madonna on the map, no doubt!

Every track on this album is masterfully done, in it's own way. What can you say about the Chic guy's (Nile, Bernard, Tony Thompson) they provide the groove that is unchallenged and gives Magonna's sound a rhythmic dose of Chic-ism.

Like a Virgin, displays Madonna, in what I think is, her best LP. This LP took her from the 'borderline' of smelling success, to actually achieving it. Everyone knows all the attention, her video for Like a Virgin generated. Madonna was hot, and the LP was even hotter.

I think Madonna will attest herself, that this LP was her turning point, because after this release, she saw undaunted success, awards, and her tours were always inventive musical showcases.

I always pull this LP out of the archives to listen to, because it's a fun album, and has good rhythm. Much kudos to Nile & Bernard, your talents shine through every artist you touch.

Peace to All

Free Music Review: Absolute Pop Perfection from the Queen Of POP!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Forgetting about Madonna herself (what shes about an accomplised) Like A Virgin is hands down the #1 revolutionary, female/diva pop album of the 80s, and in my opinion "today"! What this album did for the female pop singer is what Elvis did for Rock N Roll. Every blow up, talentless barbie doll (since then) has tried to emulate the flawless success (sexiness, image, and pure pop perfection) of this album! No ones even remotely touched Like A Virgin. Britney came maybe within 1/8 of a mile, but her debut simply didnt stand the test of time in endless ways. Shes simply a one album wonder manufactured 200% and simply a puppet from corporate exces who blatantly had "Madonna" (and Like A Virgin) in mind with what they wanted to accomplish! Baby One More Time sold for sure, and had some decent, catchy songs but her albums/ singles after were pure cr*p, and shes simply a personality (again which the media tried to label the new generational/ younger Madonna), but LAV was a bullseye in every single way which was packed with hits still heard today (unlike Baby One More Time LOL) that people need to just give up on trying to recapture in this lifetime...

Free Music Review: The Material Girl's first megahit
Hit: 5 Stars

This album,Madonna's second, spawned 5 Top 20 hits between late 1984 and mid-1985. The title track was released as a single before this album. She performed the song at the first annual MTV Video Music Awards in the fall of 1984. She wore the dress with the "Boy Toy" belt buckle like she did in the front cover photo. Other hits are MATERIAL GIRL,which reporters would label her as to this very day. There's also ANGEL,DRESS YOU UP and LOVE DON'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE. None of those tracks became part of THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION,like the title track and MATERIAL GIRL did. OVER AND OVER appeared in remix form on YOU CAN DANCE. In the summer of 1985,when this album was still on the hit parade,Madonna married actor Sean Penn, from whom she is currently divorced. "Weird Al" Yankovic used the title track's music for his parody LIKE A SURGEON. Following the release of this album,Madonna would become a movie star with "Desperately Seeking Susan" being her first film. When this album was still on the charts, she scored two other hits, not from this album, but from DSS,INTO THE GROOVE and CRAZY FOR YOU from "Vision Quest".
