Free Music Notes for Like a Virgin

Free Music Review: Like A Diva
Hit: 5 Stars

Here's where it all started. Yes, there was the previous debut disc, but Like A Virgin was the song and album that kicked off the craze. This album spawned two trademark hits (Like A Virgin-#1 and Material Girl-#2) as well as two top five singles (Angel, Dress You Up). But it also set the tone of what was to come. All of Madonna's albums including her most recent have been patchworks, inspired collections of pop confections built around a few hit singles. Though 1992's Erotica was a somewhat "conceptual" piece, the rest have followed Like a Virgin's eclectic poses. And there's no better time to own this disc. Warner Bros. has done a wonfderful job re-mastering this milestone recording and threw on two bonus tracks as well. Dance remixes of the title track and Material Girl appear as extras. Sadly Madonna herself has distanced herself from this material, claiming she never wants to sing "Like A Virgin" again. That's too bad. A blonde should never forget her roots.

Back in 1984, Madonna gave an unforgettable performance of "Like a Virgin" at the MTV Video Music Awards. Dressed in a wedding gown and prancing around the stage, it was a delightful preview of her second record, produced by Nile Rogers. "Like a Virgin" is an impressive step forward from her debut album and shows a more confident, self-assured Madonna. The bouncy "Material Girl" would be one of her signature hits, even though Madonna herself is quietly distancing herself from that song. Too bad, because it's a great tune. Like that song, the rest of the album is full of hook-infested pop tunes such as the energetic "Dress You Up," "Over and Over," and "Angel," which is a favorite of mine. Her cover of "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" also holds up well, as does the disc's fine closer, "Stay." "Like a Virgin" sold substantially more than its predecessor, and deservedly so. It's one of my favorite Madonna albums and smartly dodges the sophomore slump.

Free Music Review: Like a Virgin.......Hey!
Hit: 5 Stars

I wasn't really sure what to expect when I got this album. But after I listened to it, it was kind of like a time warp, stepping back into the '80's. "Material Girl" and "Like a Virgin" are my two favorites! For some reason whenever I hear any of those two songs, I think of that singer in that music video from "The Goonies." I guess it's because Madonna has a big influence on a lot of things, and to me she was the '80's.
I almost got in trouble for singing "Like a Virgin" when I was on the ferry from England to France, and on the overnight train from Paris to Nice. 'cause Kristen would sing the Like a Virgin part, and I would do the Hey part. It really made her and the others giggle.

*The remixes of Material Girl and Like a Virgin were alright, but I didn't like them as much as the originals. (Too many extra sounds that distract and take away from the song itself.)

Free Music Review: Like Madonna, being amazing for the very first time...
Hit: 5 Stars

I got Celebration for my birthday, then my neighbor was kind enough to give me a copy of Ray Of Light, then I decided to get all her other CDs and give copies to my neighbor so we'd both have the ultimate collection.

Anyway...

The moment I heard this CD, I knew the title song was good, but then the whole thing surprised me by being an awesome collection. This and Bedtime Stories are now tied for my second favorite Madonna album.

Anyway, the whole album is full of fast-paced makes-you-wanna-dance numbers (Like A Virgin, Material G irl, Dress You Up, etc.) as well as a few slow-paced but still lovable tracks (Angel, Love Don't Live Here Anymore).

It doesn't matter whether you're from the 80's and some how have managed to not buy this album or from the 90's-00's, this album is a keeper for anybody who needs something fun to dance to. I recommend it to anybody. :)

Free Music Review: 5 stars for nostalgia sake alone :)

I still remember getting upset in early 1985 when Casey Kasem announced that "Like A Virgin" was booted off the top of the billboard charts after 5 weeks by "I Want to Know What Love Is" by Foreigner. Kind of ironic that I love that Foreigner song now, but when you're 10 years old and Madonna is the cat's meow, anybody that comes near her is dead meat. Her video's for "Like A Virgin" and "Material Girl" are engraved in my brain for all eternity. They were colorful and fun to watch.

Other songs on here such as "Over and Over" and "Angel" still bring back vivid memories of mid-80's pre-pre-pubescent life. "Shoo-Bee-Do" is a wonderful song that has not lost it's touch after 18 years.

The only songs that annoy me and always did are "Pretender" and "Stay". Not BAD songs, just not good songs either.
