Free Music Notes for Like a Virgin

Free Music Review: A True Gem
Hit: 5 Stars

First I was so excited that this was one of Madonna "Remastered" series. It's not well-promoted, though. Warner should put a larger sticker on the cover to denote it. Nevertheless, it is just great!! The amazing, powerful remastered sounds, coming out of the speakers as if they were recorded today. All the nuances are heard. The artwork is beautifully integrated. One of my favoirte tracks on this album is actually "Shoo-Bee-Doo." It's an often-missed gem. The two re-mastered dance tracks made this CD worth the $$, eventhough I think Warner could've priced it down a little, or produce a Madonna CD-Box of these 80's CDs. Anyway, I'm going to collect all of these remastered CDs. Now I remember I didn't buy any of the originally-released CDs back then (after owning the LPs) because I didn't think the recording sounds were good. Now I have no excuse NOT to buy!

Free Music Review: Fantastic!
Hit: 5 Stars

This was the cd that made Madonna famous! It includes her first number one hit from November 1984, Like A Virgin... However, some people get confused about Material Girl... Yes, it was a very good song, but it only hit #2 on the Billboard charts in February of 1985... Some people say it was #1, but it was not.

After Material girl was released she had another #1 single in March of 1985, which was Crazy For You... But that song first appeared on the Vision Quest soundtrack, not on the "Like A Virgin" cd. Crazy For You also appears on the "Something To Remember" cd, and also the "Immaculate Collection" cd.

Then in May and August of 1985, the songs "Angel" and "Dress You Up" were released respectively... They both hit #5 on the Billboard charts.

With all these hits on one cd, everyone from now and in the future will enjoy this cd.

Free Music Review: Gem of a Sophomore Album
Hit: 5 Stars

Madonna really scored a classic album back in 1984 with this Nile Rodgers-produced sophomore effort. While many dismiss its lackluster and unfulfilling, it is overstuffed with great moments, despite being less than 10 tracks. The first single and title track (and now classic) Like a Virgin is still as excellent and controversial sounding as ever. Material Girl and Dress You Up also haven't lost any edge; they'll get you up on that dancefloor alright. Also contains great moments such as Love Don't Live Here Anymore and Stay, as well as Over and Over which was remixed for the YOU CAN DANCE album and Angel, the dreamy hit released alongside Into the Groove way back when. All in all, Like a Virgin is still quite a catchy album, and now, backed with two 12" mixes, you either have the album already or you don't have an excuse to not.

Free Music Review: The album that made Madonna a superstar!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This was Madonna's second release and the one that made the freakishly huge star that she remains to this day. The hits from this cd are the classic "Like A Virgin","Material Girl","Angel","Dress You Up" and "Love Don't Live Here Anymore". The cd also features some of Madonna's best non hits like "Stay","Over And Over" and my favorite "Shoo-bee-doo". This cd also features the original 12" mixes of "Like A Virgin"(6:08) and "Material Girl"(6:07). My only gripe is that if Warner Brothers was going to put 12" mixes of the songs then include "Angel" and "Dress You Up" as well. Oh well - this was produced by Nile Rodgers after his work with Diana Ross, Debbie Harry and David Bowie and shows his growth at working and allowing the artist a chance to grow too.

Free Music Review: Singing Still not Desirable, But Productions Are Hot As Hell
Hit: 5 Stars

At this time, she still could not sing, but the production duties of Nile Rodgers proved otherwise. She came out with a grunge look that captured every stupid girl looking like this child. Madonna came back now as the Material Girl due to the first track. The songs are good and catchy. The only one I did not like however was the Miles Davis song "Love Don't Live Here Anymore". Her attempt at jazz is abyssmal. No range, emotion or class for that matter. Every other song is slamming.
Get This! Niles is the star here and unfortunately, that's sad.
Grade for album: A+++ Grade for singing: F!
