Free Music Notes for Something to Remember

Free Music Review: Beautifully amazing
Hit: 5 Stars

I want you (with Masssive attack) (5/10) never could get into this one. although i must say its still a pretty song. i also dont like the orchestral version at the end.

I'll remember (10/10) Great wonderful song, this song is the reason why i purchased this collection.

Take a bow (9/10) very good song, such a sweet love song.

You'll see (10/10) this song is so beautiful, i love it. the chorus is great and kinda puts a tear in my eye.

Crazy for you (9/10) not her best ballad song but still a great song.

This used to be my playground (0/10) never really liked it much.

Live to tell (10/10) I love this song so much, she has such an amazing voice in it.

Love dont live here anymore (0/10) bland/boring

Something to remember (0/10) again, kinda bland and boring

Forbidden love (0/10)Dont like this one either. its weird though that there is another song by the same name of off her COADF album.

One more chance (0/10) i hate this one and it sounds like a song someone sang before. maybe its a cover song?

Rain (10/10) next to the power of goodbye, this song is her best ballad ever. the song is beautiful and the video is amazing and pretty.

Oh father (10/10) a haunting, yet another classic song by madonna herself.

this collection just proves that madonna has a GREAT voice and that she can sing, and not just dance. her ballads on here are some of the greatest ever made.

Free Music Review: Absolutely fantastic.
Hit: 5 Stars

Something To Remember is well and truly exactly what it says it is. This collection of wonderful ballads from Madonna's career ranges from back in 1984 down twelve years to 1996. There are some classic gems in this package ("Take A Bow", "Oh Father", "Live To Tell", "Rain"), yet there are Madonna songs that never made any other of her albums ("This Used To Be My Playground"), and there are also new songs ("You'll See", "I Want You", "One More Chance"). There's also the delightful "I'll Remember" and songs that weren't singles but made this collection anyway ("Forbidden Love", "Something To Remember"). Some versions also appear as remixed forms ("Love Don't Live Here Anymore", and even though it also appeared as an original version and a new song, "I Want You"). This is a golden treasure for any Madonna fan who doesn't have the originals, and well and truly is, something to remember.

Free Music Review: Perhaps Immaculate Collection Part 2?
Hit: 4 Stars

This was marketed as Madonna's Greatest Ballad Hits when it was released, but could have gone under the title of Immaculate Collection Part 2 since it covered many hits not found on the Part 1.

This interesting compilation focusses on all the ballads including at that time, the new songs "I want You" and the delicious "You'll See". This compilation is special because its' the only Madonna album to feature "This Used to be My Playground". There are a few dull moments on the compilation including the title song "something to remember" (from Dick Tracey) and "Take A Bow" (from Bedtime Stories) but these minor complaints should not put you off adding what many of us consider Part 2 of the Immaculate Collection.

Madonna remains one of the most important recording artists of the last thirty years. Simply because she has shown many different styles.

Free Music Review: Madonna:- Something To Remember
Hit: 5 Stars

One of the first albums of its kind, Madonna's 1995 ballads collection "Something To Remember" gathered her most notable down tempo numbers from her career. Some tracks on the album, including "This Used To Be My Playground" and "I'll Remember," were making their first appearance on a Madonna set. Three new songs were recorded for the album including a cover of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You," a collaboration with Massive Attack. Two other new tracks, "You'll See" and "One More Chance," both written and produced with David Foster, rounded out the album. "Something To Remember" peaked at #6 in the US and #1 in Australia. It achieved top five status in most other countries. "Something To Remember" has sold 3 million copies in the US alone, but another 10 million internationally which makes 13 million worldwide.

1. "I Want You" (10/10)
2. "I'll Remember" (10/10)
3. "Take A Bow" (10/10)
4. "You'll See" (10/10)
5. "Crazy For You" (10/10)
6. "This Used To Be My Playground" (10/10)
7. "Live To Tell" (10/10)
8. "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" (10/10)
9. "Something To Remember" (10/10)
10. "Forbidden Love" (9/10)
11. "One More Chance" (10/10)
12. "Rain" (10/10)
13. "Oh Father" (10/10)
14. "I Want You" [Orchestral Version] (10/10)

"Something To Remember" is a brilliant collection of Madonna's finest slow-jams. Most artists cannot pull ballad collections off, but Madonna does it with ease. If I've already given my thoughts on a song elsewhere, I will give their American chart positions instead. If I have reviewed a song already and it was not even a single, I'll note that song at the end of my review. "I Want You" is a brilliant track. It's definately one of the album's best tracks. "I'll Remember" is an excellent Madonna track, which got #2 stateside and spent longer than 6 months on the Billboard Chart. "Take A Bow" (#1) can be found on "Bedtime Stories". "You'll See" is one of the new tracks. It's brilliant and got #6 in the US. "Crazy For You" (#1) can be found on "The Immaculate Collection". "This Used To Be My Playground" is excellent, from the film A League Of It's Own. It got #1 in America. "Live To Tell" (#1) can be found on "True Blue" and "The Immaculate Collection". "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" (#78) can be found on "Like A Virgin", but was not released as a single until this album's success. "One More Chance" is a great acoustic track, which wasn't released as a single in the US, but got #11 in the UK. "Rain" (#14) can be found on "Erotica", and "Oh Father" (#20) can be found on "Like A Prayer". The Orchestral Version of "I Want You" is also good, but this track should've been "Bad Girl" instead. "Something To Remember" and "Forbidden Love" were not released as singles, and can be found on my reviews for "I'm Breathless" and "Bedtime Stories", respectively. I totally recommend this album to any Madonna fans.

Free Music Review: What happened to this Madonna?
Hit: 4 Stars

Ah, Madonna in the mid-nineties. Before she got too deep in Kabbalah, before she tried to impress polite London society.

Her upcoming album is rumored be to an all-dance album. Not that I don't like the disco side of Madonna, but her most recent efforts have been less than stellar. We'll see.

Anyhow, I would have shaken up the songlist on the collection a little, to suit my tastes, but what is here is quite strong. Rain has the same appeal as it did back in 1992. And Oh Father still tugs at my heart. Two songs I wish could have made the final cut are Love Tried to Welcome Me and Bad Girl. Okay, Bad Girl is more of an uptempo ballad, but so is Rain. To me, Bad Girl is unlike anything she had done before, or has done since. It tells of someone who has hit rock bottom in their life, trying tearfully to make sense of it all. At the same time, it is sonically mesmerizing. One of my all-time Madonna favorites.

Thank God that Something to Remember was resurrected. It was a diamond in the rough, on Madonna's horrible vanity album, I'm Breathless. Okay, any true Madonna fan should have it, but it's just a novelty item, so awful that it's beyond camp. Yet, there was this gorgeous ballad waiting to be rediscovered.

I know it won't happen, but it would be lovely to reissue this as a two-disc compilation, and include all the ballads. There are several extra songs to fill out two discs- Bad Girl, Love Tried to Welcome Me, Inside of Me, Promise to Try, Look of Love, X-Static Process, Power of Goodbye, etc.
