Free Music Review: You Can Dance -- Madonna's fourth album
Hit: 5 Stars

Released in 1987. Copies sold:- 6,000,000.

You Can Dance was Madonna's fourth album, and her first compilation, also the first ever remix album. It represents a collection of her 80's dance/extended remixes, plus a new track, which is "Spotlight". You Can Dance is a brilliant album for a party, or if you just want to dance, and I even tend to play it before I go out, because it really gets you into the mood! You Can Dance is a really fun Madonna album, despite not selling as much as her first three. You Can Dance was also the first Madonna album (and the only Madonna album to date) not to hit the Top 10 in the US, peaking at #14.

1. Spotlight (6:23). 10/10
2. Holiday (6:32). 10/10
3. Everybody (6:44). 10/10
4. Physical Attraction (6:20). 10/10
5. Over And Over (7:11). 10/10
6. Into The Groove (8:26). 10/10
7. Where's The Party (7:16). 10/10
8. Holiday (Dub Version) (6:56). 9/10
9. Into The Groove (Dub Version) (6:23). 9/10
10. Where's The Party (Dub Version) (6:18). 9/10

When I first bought You Can Dance, I didn't have very high expectations for the CD because it was a remix album... However, I was pleasantly suprised to find that this CD was excellent, especially all the vocal remixes. (Tracks one to seven.) The dub versions are also nice, and although they weren't as good as the vocal mixes, they were still nice to listen to. My favourite tracks are Spotlight, Over And Over and Into The Groove. Spotlight is a wonderful track, and sounds a bit like Lucky Star. Over And Over is one of the best remixes I have ever heard, and the remix of Into The Groove remains a favourite with the fans. Shep Pettibone is a masterpiece! I recommend this album to any Madonna fan, she proves that you really can dance, and you'll probably want to when you play this CD!

Free Music Review: Madonna:- "You Can Dance"
Hit: 5 Stars

November 1987 brought "You Can Dance," a remix set of Madonna's early dance hits, featuring production work from Jellybean and Shep Pettibone. The lone new track on the album was "Spotlight," which climbed to #32 on Billboard's airplay charts - though it was never released as a commercial single in the U.S. The album peaked at #14 in America and sold well, considering its then-new concept, and has moved an estimated 6 million units worldwide.

1. "Spotlight" (10/10)
2. "Holiday" (10/10)
3. "Everybody" (10/10)
4. "Physical Attraction" (10/10)
5. "Over And Over" (10/10)
6. "Into The Groove" (10/10)
7. "Where's The Party" (10/10)
8. "Holiday" [Dub Version] (9/10)
9. "Into The Groove" [Dub Version] (9/10)
10. "Where's The Party" [Dub Version] (9/10)

As I mentioned above, "Spotlight" is the only new track on this remix collection, and it's brilliant and released on no other, so if you buy this album for one reason, let this be it. The remix of "Holiday" doesn't change much, but it's still brilliant. "Everybody" isn't changed much. It's just slightly extended, but it's still great. "Physical Attraction" is another great effort, whereas "Over And Over" and "Into The Groove" have to be some of the best remixes *ever*. They are fabulous! "Where's The Party" is another absolutely brilliant effort that will leave you speechless. The dub versions are also very good, and even if they aren't as good as the vocal remixes, they are still worth listening to. Shep Pettibone and Jellybean are both a masterpiece!

My top three "You Can Dance" pics:-
3) Over And Over
2) Spotlight
1) Into The Groove (Vocal Remix)

Free Music Review: Madonna you can dance
Hit: 5 Stars

Free Music Review: "You Can Dance..."
Hit: 5 Stars

"For Inspiration..." That is a classic phrase from the 1985 hit Into The Groove, which is just one of the songs that appears on this wonderful dance contemplation. This album proves that you CAN dance, and you will when you hear these songs. You Can Dance was Madonna's first greatest hits CD. While there is only one new song (Spotlight) all the rest of the songs are remixed to be six minutes plus. But all the songs are remixed by the original mixers and producers so you know they're going to be good. All the songs are in a continuos sequence except for the three dub versions. Here are how the ten tracks rate from 0(bomb)-10++++(outstanding)

1. Spotlight: Fantastic song with a good message. 10++++

2. Holiday: Excellent remix! 10++++

3. Everybody: Good remix. 10++++

4. Physical Attraction: Good song with a good remix. 10++

5. Over And Over: Good remix, just a tad long. 10+

6. Into The Groove: Best on the CD! Awesome remix! 10++++

7. Where's The Party: Good remix. 10++++

8. Holiday (Dub Version): OK, but she hardly sings at all. 10++

9. Into The Groove (Dub Version): Better than the Holiday dub. 10+++

10. Where's the Party (Dub Version): Not a bad dub. 10+++

Overall Grade: A+ (10++)

Free Music Review: Must be in your collection
Hit: 5 Stars

If I'm not wrong the interesting thing about these remixes is that they were remixed by the actual producers, so they don't fall far from the great originals. And very imporatantly it's not an anonymous remix album like it was trendy these last years, it's on the contrary a great idea. None of these tracks were ever actually remixed before (as it's customary these days), except a 9-minute long 'Everybody' Dub. So of course it's great. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to get my hands on original 12" mixes of 80s songs, because loving the normal version, the exteded 12" mix is more of it and allows a full presentation of the work .Just think about Donna Summer's 'Love To Love You Baby': 17 minutes edited down to not even 4! In the 80s 7-8 minutes was regular Extended Mix. How can you not like this cd?. The original B-Side of this album (Groove/Over/Party) is very different from the A-side. It's more upbeat and very 80s dance. Can you keep from dancing? After you listen to it you realise how appropriate the title is. The first song presented here, and the only new song, is 'Spotlight'. I think it agrees perfectly with this concept album. You CAN Dance, and you must.
