Canadian Music Store Free Music Notes for Magnolia: Music from the Motion PictureFree Music Review: A Beautiful and emotionally moving masterpiece! The soundtrack to the film "Magnolia" is perfect. The music on this soundtrack is a perfect companion to all of the film's brilliantly concieved characters. It's perfect because, if you don't know already, Paul Thomas Anderson actually wrote this film because he was INSPIRED by Aimee Mann's music. If that doesn't convince you then I don't know what will about how great the music is from this soundtrack. P.T. Anderson made the movie BECAUSE of Aimee Mann's music. Mann is very talented obviously, considering her music inspired one of the best films of the nineties. This soundtrack is mostly composed of her work as well as Supertramp. I thought the Supertramp songs were not going to be very good since I am not very familiar with their work but, their contributions were just as strong as Aimee's. "Goodbye Stranger" is somehow a perfect fit for quiz kid Donnie Smith's unfortunate place in life. The best thing about this soundtrack is that every song is a compliment to a different character in the film. For instance, Donnie Smith and "Dreams" or, the blonde girl who's a cocaine addict (I forgot her name) and the second track on the album (sorry I forgot it's name also). Then, perhaps the best scene in the movie where Aimee Mann's "wise up" starts to play and all the characters are singing along with it. For me that's the most emotionally-moving scene in the entire film and perhaps in any film that I've ever scene. That scene was so brilliant and moving, it brought me to tears...it really did. And who's to thank for it, but the brilliant work of Aimme Mann who, in turn, inspired the equally brilliant Paul Thomas Anderson. Thanks guys! |
