This is a thoroughly professional performance of the Fifth, but it is hardly the last word on the subject. Interpretation and orchestral execution are competant, but it can't stand up to other recordings in the catalog - both Bernstein Fifths (Sony and DGG) and Zander are particular favorites. I bought this primarily for the SACD sound, but as it is derived from a two channel original, surround effects are synthetic. I don't find the sound that impressive to begin with, being rather harsh and glaring. Tilson Thomas and, particularly, Zander, are much better SACD alternatives.Free Music Review: Brilliant!
