Free Music Review: A scintillating album from start to finish!

MAME contains Jerry Herman's best score. The songs are perfectly suited to the characters and situations. Angela Lansbury is larger than life as the irrepressible Mame, belting out the songs with a confident air. No wonder she won the Tony award for this performance and listening to this cast album you regret even more that she was not cast in the film version. Bea Arthur is a wonderfully acidic Vera (at least she DID get to do the movie) and the rest of the cast provide spirited support.As always, Sony has done a first rate remastering and provided excellent notes and reprinted the detailed synopsis from the original Lp cover.
All in all a scintillating package.

Fans of musical theatre won't want to miss this one... You'll Laugh, You'll Cry and You'll Listen to this CD over and over again. The album stars Angela Lansbury who truly captures the wild, exploratory, youthful yet sincere spirit of Mame. It's hard to say whether this album is so wonderful because of the score, the level of energy or the chemestry that shines through even on this cast recording. Also in the cast are: Bea Arthur as Vera Charles, Jane Connel as Gooch, Frankie Michaels as Young Patrick and Jerry Lanning as Older Patrick. - Included with this CD are 5 bonus tracks of Jerry Herman (the writer of the music and lyrics) at the piano singing his heart away.Free Music Review: FANTASTIC REMASTER OF A CLASSIC

I am so happy that Sony has decided to remaster MAME. I own the previous version which was made from an album master, and this new mastering is clear, quiet, and every instrument in place and sounding beautiful. The extras (demos by Jerry Herman) are nice as an extra, but this musical sparkles compared to its film version (which was quite sad, to say the least). Any broadway fan of "old fashioned" broadway tunes will adore this one, if you own the old version, use it as a frisbee, this is a sheer audible delight. I hope Sony continues this trend!Free Music Review: Angela is amazing!

Even if you haven't seen the actual Broadway performance of Mame before, you can live the story with this CD! The songs are just amazing and Angela Lansbury's performance is legendary! I recommend this CD for everyone to hear! My favorite tracks on this CD are:

-Open a New Window
-My Best Girl(I love the melody)
-Bosom Buddies(one of the funniest things you'll ever hear!)
-That's How Young I Feel
-Mame
-If He Walked Into My Life(Lansbury gives an emotional and memorable performance)

I am reviewing the original issue, not the remastered one. I couldn't find the original issue listed. Anyway, Angela Lansbury stars in her finest role. Listen to IF HE WALKED INTO MY LIFE, IT'S TODAY, and OPEN A NEW WINDOW and you'll believe me. Plus Beatrice Arthur is great with BOSOM BUDDIES and the whole cast is great with MAME. All-in-all, you need to buy either this version or the remastered version, because MAME is the musical to have.
