Voices and music make a revival of this beautiful play. Full of passion.

Free Music Review: just slightly disappointed
Hit: 4 Stars

In 1981, my husband gave me an 8-track that had the entire play spoken words and lyrics for the soundtrack of The Man of La Mancha". It was wonderful!. We all know what happened to 8-tracks but I was able to get it transfered onto cassette before machine and 8-track destructed. I was not so fortunate with my cassette. It died before I could afford the technology to dub it onto cd. So imagine my excitement when I saw I could get the cd from Amazon. That was a few years ago and I was very disappointed then to get ONLY the songs, no dialog, not even Sancho singing Don Quixote's 'missive' do Aldonza as she finishes up in the kitchen and sends a dirty dishrag as the token. It was 2 years after my husband gave me that first 8-track before I saw a local production of the play and learned that nothing had been left off that soundtrack. What excitement when I read added tracks in the above description and bought another cd. Yes there is one more track but you still don't hear Don Quixote's battles with the giant Matagoga or the Great Enchanter who turns out to be Sanson Carasco. It was the dialog that led me to read the book so many years ago (a great pleasure). How I wish I didn't have to wait for another theater production to enjoy the whole play again. The record album was also no help. If any one out there has the entire play PLEASE comment!!! However the music quality was excellent on this cd.

Free Music Review: Richard Kiley & Co. tilt at windmills
Hit: 4 Stars

MAN OF LA MANCHA, the imaginative and poetic musicalization of Cervantes' story, opened on Broadway in 1965, in the same glorious season that boasted CABARET, MAME, SWEET CHARITY and ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER. With a score by Mitch Leigh and Joe Darion the show quickly swept into the history books running for 2,328 performances during its several-year run. Richard Kiley is still just about the perfect Don Quixote, with Joan Diener (KISMET's original Lalume) as the raffish wench Aldonza. Irving Jacobson plays Sancho Panza, Quixote's faithful assistant, perfectly. Best-remembered for the stirring "Impossible Dream", the score also features other delights like "It's All the Same", "I'm Only Thinking of Him", "Aldonza" and the heartrending "What Does He Want of Me?". Many revivals on Broadway have only heightened the regard in which this cast sits.
