Free Music Notes for Amar Es CombatirFree Music Review: Can't get enough of Mana Hit: 5 StarsNow I am hoping they'd tour and add Seattle as one of their stops. I was debating weather to give them 4 or 5 stars, as yes the rhythm can be somewhat repetitive nevertheless, this Cd sounds great and songs will grow on its listeners. In addition, the collaboration with Juan Luis Guerra is unique and the lyrics are as poetic as always. Great job and get yourself a copy.
Free Music Review: Great album Hit: 5 StarsI waivered a bit whether I'd give a 4 or 5 stars, but concluded that this is a "great" album and deserves five. I've be a fan since DJLN and and feel like this album has enough great hooks, lyrics, and diversity to warrant this an excellent rating.
If you want an immediate high, many of the songs might seem a bit bland...the best albums require more active listening, and this one will reward the listener with uplifting and beautiful music. I've enjoyed it for over a week and still get a thrill when it's in the deck. I'll be more than glad to see them on tour if they come up to the Seattle area :)
Free Music Review: Somewhat dissapointed Hit: 2 StarsDon't get me wrong, I think Mana is a great band and Alex Gonzalez is probably one of the best musicians around . I just think that AEC is a boring CD. It seems like this CD is ( and maybe should have been) an extension of Revolucion de Amor (like a double CD). What bothers me is that the band took all these years to come out with an average, not very original material. A Cd about love is ok, but Mana already made one...their last one.
I think they are sticking to what Warnermusic likes. Moneymaking...
I hate to say this but this CD is not good.
Free Music Review: Maná + Already Proven formula = Their best recording since "Donde Jugaran los Niños" Hit: 4 StarsOk... first of all the only reason "Amar es Combatir" does not get a 5 star rating from me is because the over-statement made by Fher (vocalist) on a recent Mexico TV interview when he adressed "Amar es combatir is a kind of NEW and EXPERIMENTAL mix of sounds (bachata, regaee, cumbia) from Mana, put it all together on a all LOVE-oriented album".
I am ok with the love piece, but I strongly disagree withe the "new" and experimental statement.
For those U.S. and 20-something spanish/mexican readers, MANA is the "upgraded" version of "Sombrero Verde" the ORIGINAL band form by Fher, Ulises and Juan (and sorry for the forgotten original drummer's name) back in the early 80's in Guadalajara, Jalico.
Their recordings back in the day has a full influencies of regaee sounds and Police (the band) influencies...but put that aside, lets focus on AEC.
I agree on most of the commentaries done before...this is a great album, however if you're NEW to Maná I will not put this recording as your first pick to knew the band (catch my drift?)
The Juan Luis Guerra colaboration on "Bendita tu Luz" for me is the BEST track of the album, lyrical and musical speaking..they really deliver!!!
As some other posting comment, if you're an old Maná fan, you can easily recognize those tracks written by Alex.
My final though being the "it-could-be-the-Clavado en un bar- track of the album" goes to "Arrancame el corazon"... I mean the track has EVERYTHING... tempo, power cords, great instrumentation, however, the LYRICS just don't stay put at the same level, and please , ANY OBJECTIVE REAL MANA FAN would really can feel it the same way after hearing the first minute of such track.
A great album, by a great Mexican band... I am really not complaining and still will be enjoying it for a very long time!
Free Music Review: Maná once again proves why they are the best Hit: 5 StarsI've been listening to this album for a week now and I'm discovering something different everytime I listen to it. What a great CD! I don't really know if they've gone back to their old style of recording nor do I care to try and remember which song may remind me of a previously recorded song.
Take the album for what it is! It's quality music as Maná has made us accustomed to listen to. It's Maná with their classic rock, ballad, reggae, cha cha cha, bachata rhythms. Like most of the other's reviewee's mentioned, I too had been waiting for 4 years for their new material (I don't think Te Llevaré al Cielo really counts) and are very satisfied with their recent production!
¡En hora buena muchachos!
