Free Music Notes for Mana: MTV Unplugged

Free Music Review: Mexican Rock !!
Hit: 5 Stars

I think that this album is one the greatest that this band has ever made in their entire history. The music for Mana has stayed the same for some time and one of their big themes is about love. A song that I love is " Cuando los angeles lloran", which tells the story about a guy who loved the jungle and died trying to protect it. This rock band is known for their songs against illegal cutting of trees and saving the rain forest in Mexico. Another one of my favorite songs is "Mariposa Traicionera" and this song is about a girl and how her love was unworthy of any man because she is like a butterfly. This girls is very unstable and likes to break the guy's heart's but she does not care. One of the trademarks from this group is the slow rock. Unlike any other Spanish rock band that I have heard, Mana makes the words come into your most inner self. Through their words, Mana makes you remember of those whom have betrayed, loved, and those who have deserted you. Their lyrics tend to stay the same because in every album they sing about the some of the same stuff. They mostly sing about judicial injustice in Mexico, little boys and girls working in the streets, and people whom have leaved their loved ones. I am attracted to this group because they speak my language and because they make me remember of my country. They help me to realize all of the problems that are going on in Mexico and how they try to express it through music. I would recommend this cd to all of those whose hearts have been broken by girls or whom just like good Spanish rock. If you like guitar doodles and crazy drum solos, check this band out!!! Another group that has Mana's style are the Jaguares because they have similar lyrics and style. Another cd that I love from Mana is their latest album "Revolucion de amor". If you like Spanish rock, then you won't have any problems listening to Mana. Viva Mexico!!!

Si je devais choisir parmi ma collection mes dix albums pr?f?r?s, Man?

Free Music Review: "WHERE DO I GET THE DVD IN CALIFORNIA" ---- HELP!!!!---
Hit: 5 Stars

I personally like albums where you can listen to the whole cd and not have to skip around due to bad songs that plague the recording. This is one of those albums though you might not be sorprised "all" of Mana's records have this characteristic This happens to be a cd packed with rich accoustics that give each song a better listening value.

MANA'S MTV UNPLUGGED is an excellent cd I really enjoy listening to it. I must have played it close to a thousand times but everytime I swear I hear something new. The song TE SOLTE LA RIENDA is probably my favorite it's similar to the original (by Jose Alfredo Jimenez) but with a much higher level of emotion.

In addition I just would like to include in my review an exquisitelly accurate comparission made by a new found friend : CIBERNENA (from San Jose CA) "Mana is a group of true artists of the same or even superior caliber as U2..(hi cibernena!)

Free Music Review: One of the most beautiful pop records ever made
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm listening to this disc as I write. I remember the first time I heard/saw it: wandering through a Sanborn's store in Mexico City -- I stopped cold and viewed the DVD on an instore TV for ten or fifteen minutes, absolutely captivated. Shortly thereafter, it was mine, as was the DVD (which adds a whole other dimension). I would put "Mana Unplugged" in my top twenty discs of all time. The group is the Mexican Beatles: writers of exquisite pop songs with heart, beautifully crafted, played with vigour and a little rock-n-roll swagger, and also a progressive political bent that comes through on songs like "Ana" and their terrific cover of Ruben Blades' "Desapariciones." The love songs, from "Vivir Sin Aire" to "El Muelle de San Blas" to "Rayando El Sol," are among the few that consistently bring tears to my eyes. And the playing has the attention to technique and subtlety that characterizes Latin music more than its North American or Western European equivalent. As an advantage for the non-Spanish speaker, the CD comes with translations of the lyrics of most of the songs. These lose some of the poetry, but at least let you know what's going on thematically. A magnificent, unmissable record.

Free Music Review: Unplugged performance lives up to studio sound. Maná rules!
Hit: 5 Stars

Maná is one of the best recording and performing latin rock bands around and this CD proves it. All the songs played are incredibly great sounding, with some of the songs sounding as good as the studio versions and others are nice variations with a nicely polished sound. Only the sound of the audience and Fher's occassional talking give away that this is a live performance. The "MTV unplugged" moniker may be misleading. Don't expect an acoustic recording since a lot of the instruments remained plugged: there's plenty of electric bass and electric guitar (though they are semi-acoustic) as well as synths. Alex gets a nice, but all too short, drum solo in "Coladito." The only bad part of this CD are the English translations of the lyrics. They are truly poor and off the mark. Cervantes Saavedra's observation, almost four hundreds years old, that the worst thing done in translations are the attempts to put one language's poetry and meaning into another holds very true. But all in all, this is Maná at their live best!
