Free Music Notes for Send Away the TigersFree Music Review: THEIR BEST ALBUM IN YEARS - very satisfying Hit: 5 Stars
Just got this cd and it's taken up residence in my disc player since purchase. Bottom Line: IMO, the best Manics album in years, which is not really a slight against them, as they don't have any bum albums, but this one is a stunner - a return to their mid-90's form. Very tuneful and energetic, lots of loud guitars, most songs like 3 or 4 min long and come out swinging, and there are great riffs and catchy hooks, moreso than the recent stuff of theirs. There is some political stuff here, true to their history. My Favorite Cut: "Your Love Alone is Not Enough" featuring Nina Persson of the Cardigans. If you're not familiar with the Manics, i cannot highly recommend Holy Bible, Everything Must Go, and My Truth..... enough, for starters. Always interesting band, WAYYYYYY underappreciated here in the States, and one of the few British bands of the 90's still growing and making still-vital music (i'd add Charlatans UK to that list). In Short: a worthy addition to their catalogue, and definitely worth a listen if you're inclined to hear some 'real' music.
Free Music Review: The Manics are Back!!! Hit: 5 Stars
This is the best Manic Street Preachers CD in years. When they are on their game, they rock harder than any band around. Tight arrangements, loud guitars, excellent vocals, and lyrics that cut to the bone (as we have come to expect from this bunch of Welsh Rockers) makes this a must CD for fans and newcomers alike. Awesome production by Dave Eringa and tracking knobs by Guy Massey. My favorites are the title cut, "Underdogs", "Your Love Alone Is Not Enough", "Indian Summer", "I'm Not A Patsy", and "Imperial Bodybags." James Dean Bradfield continues to astound on vocals and guitars and Nicky Wire's lyrics and Sean Moore's Moon-esque drumming deliver satisfaction throughout. The secret Bonus Track of Lennon's "Working Class Hero" is a nice touch. If you have never heard the Manics, this could be a great introduction. If you've been a long time fan like I am, this is a welcome return to their rightful place as one of the world's great rock bands.
Free Music Review: Simply Stunning! Hit: 5 Stars
Manics are back!
This is an outstanding collection of music which brings back the energy and "most of" the rawness of Generation Terrorists with the melodic backing found in EMG. After the last couple of releases I am happy to say that whatever it is they wanted to get out of their system seems to be gone, hopefully for ever. Having been a fan of this band since the early 90's, I have been extremely disappointed with their recent offerings. The good news is that this is melodic but not another weird attempt at 'clever' pop. If we can forget everything they have done since EMG, this would have been a brilliant follow up. Simply fantastic. There are no bad songs on here, and trying to pick highlights is very difficult to do. This is simply the Manics back to what they do best, strong, energetic, melodic songs with strong lyrics. Welcome back guys!
Free Music Review: This Album Rocks!! Hit: 5 Stars
I have only recently gotten into the MSP's. Funnily enough from hearing the track "Your Love Alone" from this album. And I loved it so much I just went mad and got 3 of their albums including this one. As I said I am new to them, so I don't know anything about their politics, in fact I don't usually like music that is too political. But this album is just full of great songs. From the title track to of course "Your Love Alone",
"Autumnsong" is a big favourite, "Indian Summer", the whole album is just great music. The sad part is, like alot of great music these days it seems to be getting no air play at all.
Free Music Review: return to form Hit: 5 Stars
After a few uneven albums, the Manics have finally returned to the standard of "The Holy Bible" and "Everything Must Go". This is by far their most consistent record since those two-virtually all of their musical eras are represented here, from the political punk of "Imperial Bodybags" to the power-ballad "Autumnsong". This is the first time in a while that the band seems sure of themselves, and it's great to hear. This is well worth buying for anyone who's followed them over the years.
