December 1993. Tupperware Auditorium. Kissimee FL. What a concert. Looking back, I remember how great this band was. So two years later, I bought Christmas in the Aire. I knew at first listen that this band had peaked and were on the way down. If you are an artist, you know EXACTLY what a "peak" is. While this album is not bad, the band begins to repeat themselves. Pat a Pan is impressive as well as the opening track. Other fine tracks are O Come All Ye Faithful and Kling Glockshen. Then after purchasing Christmas Extraordinaire (and listening to it once), they were not just on the way down...they were toast. Recently, I found they were touring small venues as they did in the old days. No more massive arenas with sound similar to Carlsbad Caverns. So while researching this band I forgot about with intentions of seeing them live again, I see Davis has two bands under the MS name ($150 for a pair of tickets to see a cover band...I'm glad I didn't buy them). And Jackson doesn't even play on the Christmas studio albums anymore. So sad. It's all about the money, ain't it Chip? Friends, stick with the first two MS Christmas albums (the second is the superior one...without question) and the first four Fresh Aire albums and Chip's Impressions. You won't be disappointed. You probably will be with this release. I'm blessed to have seen them when they were good. Mere Image in concert...sends chills down the spine. |
