Free Music Review: Christmasville rehash of the Grinch
Hit: 2 Stars

I've always loved Mannheim Steamroller. Every one of Chip's albums' is fantastic. Christasville is his one exception. The music is for the most part a rehash of the TV cartoon version of the Dr. Souse's "The Grinch that stole Christmas". This album lacks the originality and creativity of chip's other compositions. The mediocre vocals add nothing to the presentation. Chip should have driven his steamroller right by this project. This music may work in the theme park atmosphere for which it was written but, for a stand alone album, nada!
Buy this recording only if you are a total Rollerhead and must have everything Chip has ever produced or your little crumb crunchers begged you for it and they are sold out Grinch fans.
Avoid this recording at all costs if you truly love the fine compositions Chip has produced in the past and would like to keep your collection untainted by below standard recordings.

Free Music Review: Not the Usual
Hit: 2 Stars

Yes, this music was written for a theme park. I will not diss on Chip Davis or Mannheim Steamroller. Just a word of caution; as other's have mentioned, this is not typical Mannheim Steamroller. If you are looking for more of that, avoid this album. It will appeal to some, and that's fine. It does sound to me like an album more suited to the kids; I may buy it just for that reason. My kids loved Mannheim Steamroller Meets the Mouse; they are sure to like this as well. Long time Steamroller/Chip Davis fan, and will continue to be. This one won't be going on my iPod though.

Free Music Review: Not Our Beloved Mannheim Steamroller Sound
Hit: 2 Stars

I couldn't wait to get this cd and I played it as soon as I got it home. I can honestly say I was disappointed. I wanted to hear that Mannheim Steamroller sound that only Chip Davis can create, but it is not really on the cd. Track 2 has it but not the rest of it. Track 12 sounds like it was borrowed from Trans Siberian. All of the others could be anybody, no one would know it was a Mannheim Steamroller recording. As far as it being a good Christmas CD, it is, I just wanted the sound I love so much.

Free Music Review: Not what I expected
Hit: 2 Stars

I was actually disappointed with this CD. How the Grinch Stole Christmas is not my favorite show and having the entire CD's music based on it was not my idea of great listening. There were a few of the songs I liked...but it wasn't the Mannheim Steamroller I expected.

Free Music Review: Very very disappointed.....
Hit: 1 Stars

I never thought that I would ever give a Mannheim Steamroller Christmas CD a 1 star rating - but this CD totally deserves it.

First off, this CD should have been sold under the name of Chip Davis and not Mannheim Steamroller -- one song on the album has the traditional Steamroller sound -- the rest are vocals (and one has the Big Band sound). This is simply not Mannheim Steamroller. Listen to the first Christmas album -- THAT is Mannheim Steamroller ! THAT is the sound that knocked me off my feet back in 1984 !!! This CD is, well I hate to say it, garbage.....

Mr. Davis appears to have become a very greedy man when it comes to his Christmas releases and this is a very glaring example. Save your money and pass on this release. AND by all means do not be fooled by the Steamroller CD's that you can buy in Lowes or Walmart this year (and the past three years in Lowes). These are merely repackaged compilations of previously issued music with brand new covers that look like new releases. Its a pity that these are being passed off as new releases -- nowhere on the packaging does it mention that the songs are previously issued !!!! Chip - that's sad....

And as far as the Mannheim Steamroller Christmas tour this year -- don't expect to see any of the artists that have appeared on the albums -- you will be seeing tributes bands that "studied under the tutilege of Chip Davis"......sad......
