Free Music Review: Not traditional Mannheim Steamroller--Buyer Beware!

Having purchased Mannheim Steamroller since the original Fresh Aire series on record albums of the '70s--I probably have every Chip Davis creation since. THIS album entitled "Christmasville" should NOT have been produced and sold under the "Mannheim Steamroller" name. Call this effort "Chip Davis' Singing Christmas" or "Chip Davis at Christmasville"; but to have labeled this uncharacteristic collection of non-instrumental music under the traditional Mannheim Steamroller brand is a serious if not dishonest misrepresentation.
Try to defend this effort if you want, using whatever twisted logic you chose, but this Christmasville Album was horrible. It was as if I had purchased what was traditionally a bottle of fine wine from a classic winery packaged in a manner that I had trusted over many years, to shockingly discover "Mannheim 2008" was a sickenly bitter lemonade instead. Buyer Beware! Chip Davis has sadly lost his way.

OK , I admit I bought this without an preview because I basically have loved for the most part all their earlier releases. Or maybe I was caught up in the "gee its Nov 1, it's time to start adding to my Christmas catalog. The official Amazon review makes me suspect the reviewer is paid for not listening to the actual cds? but to transcribe fiction.Even being generous or die hard fans will be hard pressed to enjoy this. Am I voicing my dissatisfaction just to trash Steamroller?, no I really love their music but this just falls short in so many ways.
Buy their Christmas box set or any earlier cds and you will be pleased. Just stay away from this one. And one last pet peeve, Buy the original soundtrack to the Jim Carry/ Ron Howard movie and you will be very pleased. The versions here of songs from the movie are horrible. maybe Chip Davis should of saved these for their Halloween Vol. three release. Nuff said

I've been a Mannheim Steamroller fan from the beginning and I even enjoy listening to some of their older Christmas CDs when it's NOT the holiday season, but this one is SO dreadful I felt like frisbee-ing it right out the car window!
I know people are complaining about how SHORT it is (about 31 minutes total), but the content was so horrific that I would argue it WASN'T SHORT ENOUGH!! After last year's mediocre Christmas album release, I can't help but wonder if ol' Chip & the gang have ridden this gravy train as far as it's capable of going. At the very least, I won't be rushing to spend my money on their next release unless I've heard it first.
Free Music Review: Chip's wake-up call

How many times have we seen artists reach a point in their careers where they are convinced they can put ANYTHING out and their fans will line up in masses to purchase their NAME? Then of course, how many times have we seen this star-struck arrogance fail? This is Chip Davis's wake up call. Sure, he'll sell a few and it certainly won't cause him to have to stand in any bread lines but as an artist even he will have to come to terms with this ridiculous failure. I can tell you from a front seat perspective, his audience is terribly disappointed.
I don't really care if this was produced for Universal, Disney, or the Cartoon Network....Chip should have left this one off the shelves! Sure hope Mannheim Steamroller can soon find their lost credibility.

I read the reviews and have heard the samples of the music. In all honesty I can't buy this album. Chip, I enjoy going to your Christmas Concerts when you are in my area (Orange County Ca.). Your music is unique, but I can't see myself going to your Christmas concert if all you play is the music from your new album. Chip, Don't feel you have to make another album because it has been a while since you had a new album. I can wait for the true Chip Davis Mannheim Steamroller music. I will keep playing your Christmas music (except the new one) forever. I can wait for a truly magical album. You done it before, and I know you can do it again..Always be true to your self and never sell yourself short.
