Free Music Notes for Clandestino

Free Music Review: 2 Thumbs up !
Hit: 5 Stars

Great songs ! Some Spanish- like, very danceable; others
Reggae - like, hypnotizing. Interesting lyrics. Mr Chao
is exceptionally talented. Deserves 1000 stars, really.Enjoy !

Free Music Review: Vacation mode...
Hit: 5 Stars

This album puts one in "vacation" mode immediately. As you listen to this CD you are promptly taken to a place with sunny skies, blue waters, relaxed environment, possibly crusing on a small sail boat...
Not the ideal music to listen to at work, but if you want to escape from it all, this is the album for you!

Free Music Review: What a Breath of Fresh Air!
Hit: 5 Stars

In these times of over-processed, soulless pop music, Manu Chao's Clandestino has given me hope. A friend brought the CD back from a recent trip to France, and it quickly replaced the schlock that the radio stations spout between commercials. Forget the Song of Summer, this was my Album of Summer. The album is much like the paradox-filled world that Manu Chao sings of - fun, yet serious; seemingly simple, yet deceivingly complex. Almost every song fades or builds into the next, providing a virtually seamless body of work. Give Clandestino a try - you won't regret it!

Free Music Review: ratings bugs!
Hit: 5 Stars

I certainly would not give this CD a 3.5!! WRONG! This CD rates among the best! The first two cuts, Clandestino & Desparacido, are almost mesmerizing in their simple insistency. Then, you're drawn into King of the Bongo before you can realize what happened. When I first got it, I listened to the first two - three songs over and over, never getting further in the CD.

As I listened to the rest, the songs were all interesting...and as I listened more, I heard the themes, either musical or lyric, self-referred in other songs. Rather than some, who might say "don't you have any more riffs?", the interwoven complexity of the musical tapestry appeared to me to have a purpose, tying the theme throughout the CD.

The theme, political and social, is very appealing to me. To match it with fascinating and well executed music makes it irresistable! Outsiders, wanderers, homeless, dispossessed, political and economic victims, the gullible...they are all here, and presented in one of the most fascinating CD's I have heard in a long time!

As far as the specific musical styles...let other critics discuss those. I just LOVED it!
