The soundtrack performed by Marc Anthony was nothing short of perfect He assimilated himself into the persona of Hector Lavoe in ways that were almost eerie. Lavoe was a legend and Marc is another living legend who someday will have a movie depicting his own life. The only thing I would have hoped for were a few more songs on the cd. In particular a song called Periodico de Ayer which was one of Lavoe's greatest and actually was in the movie so I didn't quite get why it wasn't there on the cd. All in all, if you are a Hector Lavoe afficionado or a Marc Anthony lover then you absolutely NEED to have this in your collection.Free Music Review: Marc Anthony at his Best

I loved the movie and the music so I bought this CD. I am extremely happy with my purchase. The music is phenomenal. Marc Anthony does Hector Lavoe some serious props here. Bravo Marc Anthony....the only disappointment here is the last trac, Jennifer Lopez's "Toma de Mi." IT TRULY SUCKS! The song stinks and her vocals sound like someone is strangulating a Sea gull. This should of never been included in this CD....Other than JLo's lousy singing and song, the CD is great. Buy it and when you get to JLo's song, stop the CD....Free Music Review: Apple vs Peers

Marc Anthony's Album El Cantante is good when you see it as it is;; the soundrack of a movie in which he was playing and singing the part as Hector Lavoe. Of course that if you compare the songs on the soundrack with the originals songs Marc's performance will not be good. But what are we really talking about here: about his singing skills and talents as a salsa singer, which are SUPERB! or about the imitiation of Hector Lavoe?
Talking of both he really hit the mark!!

In an environment of free speech it is expected that someone would say something negative about this album. I must disagree strongly, Marc Anthony shows and shares the wonderful gift that has been given to him.
As they say "imitaion is the sincerest form of flattery". Somone else said it best when they said that Hector lavoe would be proud of Marc Athony.
This album sounds great, and if you like Lavoe, you will not be let down if you get this cd.

The music is absolutely fabulous! Marc Anthony has great energy, and is a fabulous singer. The music of Hector Lavoe is exceptional, and so is his band. I would recommend this album to anyone who likes good music to dance to, or just plain quality musicianship. I could have done without the last track by Jennifer Lopez. Her voice is fine, but the song is a bit sappy and commercial for my taste -- especially in relation to the rest of the album.
