Free Music Notes for El CantanteFree Music Review: Best Movie Soundtrack ever!! Hit: 5 StarsThe songs in this soundtrack are some of the best Salsa songs ever made.
Great sound, great singing by Marc Anthony. Even JLo's song is good. The songs were kept very close to the original arrangement. Saturday Night Fever album is great but this is my new all time favorite.
Free Music Review: EL CANTANTE CD Hit: 5 StarsCD IS GREAT THE MOVIE WAS JUST AS GOOD MARC ANTHONY SOUNDS LIKE THE MAN (HECTOR LAVOE) IN ALOT OF THE SONGS CD IS WORTH BUYING!!!!!
Free Music Review: Music sound is great, but Marc, you are not Lavoe Hit: 2 StarsI read the reviews and find myself asking, what did viewers really focus on when they saw El Cantante? I can tell you that Marc did nothing good to the image of Lavoe. Now, the non spanish viewers were presented with "another spanish junkie". Thanks, Marc. Hector was a human being with his demons and weaknesses. Thank you, Marc.
I will say that the sound of the soundtrack is superb! The music itself deserves 5 stars. It does sound good and is refined per today's standards. But that is where it all ends. You want to experience Lavoe, then buy Hector's CD's and enjoy the legend.
You liked the movie, then go ahead and buy this CD. But if you want to know who Hector "Lavoe" Perez really was all about, then look away from this page and type "Hector Lavoe" in your next search.
Free Music Review: ElCantante Hit: 4 StarsI really liked this CD. It has quite a few great salsa tracks. Great band sound nice beats and full of energy.
Free Music Review: A very good album Hit: 3 StarsI purchased this audio CD over the weekend and found it to be musical dynamite. I've been a fan of both Hector and Marc for some time. After reading many of the comments posted here on Amazon, I thought I'd add my humble opinion to the discussion. There's no denying that Marc is one of the finest talents our beloved salsa music genre has produced. Anyone considering purchasing this CD will not be disappointed.
As with some other reviewers here, my only lament is that Marc and the album's producers didn't allow this magnificent singer to put his own signature on the songs. I realize this is because, as one poster commented: "this is a biopic" venture adhering obligatorily to Lavoe's style. That's totally understandable, but also unfortunate because it creates a situation where, on a deeper level, the album becomes mainly appealing to Marc Anthony fans.
If there was some unspoken rule that Marc couldn't veer from this Lavoe-ian style in order to pay respect to the late singer, or to be considered an "official" soundtrack album for the film - then clearly it's: mission accomplished. But I also submit this approach wasn't always observed by the orchestral arrangements. I believe I heard some very nice musical departures in the instrumental accompaniment, and it was all terrific. The orchestra and coros btw are absolutely on fire. However, I just couldn't shake the feeling that Marc was holding back a bit like a jockey in a race horse waiting for the right time to let go, trying to emulate & honor this great late sonero. Again, I will add that in this effort Marc succeeded most admirably.
In the film (which I haven't seen yet), Marc the actor has to portray the late singer, that is look and sound like him - but on the album I feel it shouldn't be that much of an issue. Perhaps it might've been more interesting to have recorded this CD NOT as a film soundtrack, but as a stand-alone album paying homage with a full-blown Marc turned loose interpreting those songs.
