I saw Marcus Eaton and his dad, Steve, live at the Ste. Chapelle Winery in Idaho for a Father's Day concert in 2006. Both worthy musicians, but Marcus Eaton and his incredibly talented band blew me away! Marcus' voice is just as compelling live as it is with studio polish. I bought the CD after the show and I still can't stop listening to it. Top of the World opens jazzy and smooth; the sound seeps in and before I know it, I'm carried on liquid melody to the last track - due in no small part to Zakari Frantz' saxophones. Left Unsaid showcases some of the guitar he plays so well. The Day the World Awoke presses its message of peace with sincerity, then Blue and Gray and Back From the Beginning bounce back to the light. Figure Her Out is reminiscent of Bruce Hornsby, and the guitar on Fiona makes me think of the music Chris Whitley used to make. On God's Favor there is almost a Latin flavour as Eaton and his band perform instrumental acrobatics bringing its electric beat of percussion, flute, bass, and guitar together. That guitar! The final tracks wend skillfully back into my conscious and subconscious and it's over all too soon. Anyone could love this CD.
