Free Music Notes for The Very Best of Maria CallasFree Music Review: Callas Hit: 5 Stars
This is a wonderful album that reveals all of Callas' strenghths. A fantastic array of dramatic singing that has been unparalled. We are so lucky that Callas, Sutherland, Sills, Horne, etc. were born in the 20th Century because thanks to technology, we can enjoy them for years to come. Nobody and I mean nobody can sing La mamma morte like Callas. While I find her high notes on the "screechy" side, she had this "something" that no one else had or has since. Her voice is not pretty, but it is utterly unique and you can't dismiss it. This album is worth every penny.
Free Music Review: Gift form God... Hit: 5 Stars
Callas's voice carries you to an untouched dimension. She is very expressive. With a voice like hers and such smooth performance, I would recommend you to consider buying the CD.Despite the fact that the CD misses any of the great works of Rossini and Donizetti, yet it is no less than a must-have CD. This is rather a call for a II volume of the best of Callas for more enchanting and comprehensive collection. Of course the recording is not as pure as modern CDs, but the company has done its best with the technical refinement. Thank you
Free Music Review: Seventy seven minutes of pure estacy! Hit: 5 Stars
I never thought I'd ever hear a Diva that I liked as well as my beloved Monsterrat Caballe, but I had never heard Callas restored to near audiophile sound quality. (I say this owning at least a dozen Callas CDs). This is definately the Callas compilation disc you have been waiting for. Have a box of kleenex handy when you listen to it...you may need it. I'll never abandon Monsterrat, who may have the most beautiful voice in the history of recorded music, but Maria is going to spend a lot of time in my CD player from now on!
Free Music Review: After all those years... Hit: 5 Stars
In 1965 she gave her last moving performance in an opera, the role was Tosca. She had sung this role first when she was 19!!! All that Tosca's about can be heard on the "Vissi d'arte" on this recording. She lived for art, she lived for love! This voice, sounding so emotional, so full of tears is Callas'truest voice. The suffering we hear in each of her portraits is her own. All you need to do to comprehend why this woman still rules the world of opera is to listen to her "Vissi d'arte".
Free Music Review: Color me impressed Hit: 5 Stars
My wife bought this CD, not me. I know nothing about opera. My only exposure to it has been through films like "Godfather Part III" and "Life Is Beautiful." I don't understand the lyrics or the technique. I don't know the difference between a head voice and a chest voice. Terms like "mezzo," "contralto," and "coloratura" mean nothing to me. However, when I heard Maria's voice, I was amazed. There is tremendous power and emotion in her voice, and she delivers her enormous range with great control.
