Free Music Notes for Mariah Carey

Free Music Review: A mostly solid group of songs for Mariah's debut effort ...
Hit: 4 Stars

... It has since been said that Mariah didn't like this type of music and didn't like singing these songs. How much of that is truth, and how much of that is vindictive rhetoric from a talented woman trying to declare her independence from her very powerful ex-lover and ex-husband, is always open to speculation. Nevertheless, this first album is very well-produced and Mariah's vocals are extremely impressive on almost every song.

The memorable ... "Vision Of Love" and "Vanishing". Spectacular songs highlighting Mariah's vocal range and passion. She is definitely in her element; and despite what she later said to the contrary, she looked like she had the time of her life performing them.

The good ... "I Don't Wanna Cry", "Love Takes Time", and "All In Your Mind". Very well done and hit-quality ballads. Mariah shows off some impressive range and vocal timing in these songs.

The average ... "Someday", "There's Got To Be A Way", and "Alone In Love". "Someday" was pushed as a single by Columbia and it did pretty well, but it is run-of-the-mill and doesn't really fit Mariah's strengths as a vocalist.

The bad ... "You Need Me". Not her style AT ALL. Sounded like a bad audition piece.

The ugly ... "Prisoner". Mariah Carey is NOT a rapper; and in my humble view, rapping should be left to the rappers. Laughably awful.

Free Music Review: The Best Of The Best
Hit: 5 Stars

Mariah Carey is Mariah's best cd ever! It's very passionate and soulful. There is much of a diversity of music on this album

1. Vision Of Love: Mariah's first single ever. This song is a very heartfelt ballad. It shows Mariahs powerful vocals. The song starts out in a calm place. Then, near the end you are awakened by the power of Mariah's voice. The chorus near the end of the song has a foreground and background vocal. The background vocal was the original vocal but they label felt she needed to record so she did. There's also a whistle note in the background as well. Giving her her 1st #1 hit.

2. There's Got To Be A Way: This song has a very deep meaning. It's about how the world is biost and how we don't care about the poor and things of that nature. She sings this song accopanied by the Billy T. Scott Ensemble. it's very nice. She uses her voice well, especially when she hits that whistle note. This song wasa released in Europe only and was 54 on the charts.

3. I Don't Wanna Cry: I very powerful ballad that's true to the heart. Although, Mariah is not fond of this song, she sings it in the best way making it her 4th #1 hit.

4. Someday: A very nice dance song that talks about being dumped from your lover. She again belts out another tune while keeping her ground. At the end there's a whistle note that sounds sort of forced but she pulls it off making it her 3rd #1 hit.

5. Vanishing: This song is the least produced song on this album. Mariah's soulful is accompanied by a nice piano. Mariah uses her voice to her best ability holding notes near the end of the song.

6. All In Your Mind: This song kind of has a reggae feel to it. Mariah stretches her voice and her writing. She does nice crescendo in the middle of the song. At the end she bursts into whistle notes that would break the windows on car.

7. Alone In Love: A very nice slow jam. Mariah sings about how her man does not love her quite like he use too. Mariah really harmonizes excellent. It's very beautiful and symbolic.

8. You Need Me: A rock-type song. You hear Mariah's voice in harmony with an electric guitar. Mariah really loves to diversify her music and she does it well. She endes the song on a high note. Literally.

9. Sent From Up Above: This is my favorite song off the album. It's a dance song like Someday and it's one of those songs that you turn up in you're car while you're driving. Mariah belts out lines of feeling liberated by a man who must be from up above. She does crescendo that would make you throw roses at your boom box.

10. Prisoner: Another dance song. Mariah sings about not being a prisoner to her man's love. Sounds familiar? Well, something that's unfamiliar is Mariah breaking into a rap near the end of the song. It's very nice.

11. Love Takes Time: Mariah's 2nd #1. This is a powerful ballad that captures your soul. It showcases Mariah's powerful vocals vocals to tell a tale of a lost love. She tries to mend her heart from all the pain she's feel, while belt and throwing in a whistle note in the background.

This album is one of the best ever and you should buy it!

Free Music Review: The debut of THE VOICE!!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is the debut from the greatest singer of all time, my favorite singer of all time, Mariah Carey!! Back in 1991, when I started listening to Mariah Carey, I came home from school, middle school, and I turned on MTV or VH1, and I saw the video for Someday and I just totally fell in love with that song for Mariah's really high note at the end of the song! I had to get the tape and I did and I listened to the whole thing and I just totally loved it and now it's one of my all time favorites from her. The only thing that kind of disappointed me about this tape was that the song Someday was a totally different version from the music video version. I just totally love the Jackswing version so much better than the album version mainly because of that really high note she hits and the music itself sounds so awesome. But other than that the album is perfect! I was able to buy the single for Someday at a Pawn Shop a couple years ago with the Jackswing versions so I'm happy and I recommend anyone who likes Someday, to get the CD single with the Jackswing versions! I bought this debut on CD years ago and I listen to it all the time!!!

Vision Of Love was Mariah's first single that went to #1 on Billboard and I love the very beginning of the song, it's got this hauntingly beautiful intro. There's Got To Be A Way shows people that Mariah really cares about people and society with her message and I remember hearing about some girl who was in a really low point in her life and this song changed her in a good way. I think she even wrote to Mariah thanking her for that song. I Don't Wanna Cry is a very emotional ballad and it's one of my favorites from Mariah. Vanishing really showcases Mariah's voice because it's just her and a piano, it's amazing and I love that long note she holds at the very end!! All In Your Mind is a really unique song and I love Mariah's high notes at the end. Sent From Up Above and Alone In Love are really beautiful slow ballads. You Need Me is a really cool upbeat song with an electric guitar. Prisoner is really cool because of Mariah's rapping. And Love Takes Time is the perfect album closer, it's a really awesome ballad!

This debut album spawned Mariah's first 4 consecutive #1 hits Vision Of Love, Love Takes Time, Someday and I Don't Wanna Cry. This is just the beginning of Mariah's string of 16 #1's. Mariah Carey is the most successful female artist in contemporary pop in history! Mariah Carey has a voice that could NEVER be topped ever!!!

Free Music Review: Explosive Beginning
Hit: 5 Stars

Mariah's first album came out right in the middle of the whole dance/house music thing. At first alot of people dismissed her as a Whitney Houston knockoff but later many would learn that Mariah has got her own thing going on. Vision of Love was the strong soulful ballad that kicked off this truly classic Mariah Carey album. Sometimes you wonder if the artist can keep the hits coming or if they are a one hit wonder but Mariah kept those hits rolling out one after another spawning 4 consecutive #1 hits including Vision Of Love, Love Takes Time, I Don't Wanna Cry, and Someday. Mariah proved she can write hit songs and sing them like nobodys business....
