Free Music Notes for Mariah CareyFree Music Review: That's where it all began... Hit: 5 StarsMariah Carey is my favourite artist, regardless of what I said in my other reviews. She's been my fave for a short while, since.. Maybe a year ago, so my other reviews might not be on the same page as this.
This cd is Mariah's debut, the 9 000 000 copies selling in the US, 4 #1 hits album. She was only 20 at the time, but her voice was already incredible. She has the best voice in the insdustry today, in my opinion anyways. Mariah is also a heck of a songwriter and producer... She deserves props for that too. I still hope I'll get to see her live one day... This is one of her albums where she belts the most.
VISION OF LOVE: The single that started it all, Mariah's first #1 hit. You probably know this love song... It's astonishing vocally. Her live performances of this song are INCREDIBLE. 10/10
THERE'S GOT TO BE A WAY: Meaningful lyrics, kind of an upbeat song. It's about poverty. The beat isn't there during the verses but the chorus is danceable. And together we'll bring on a CHAAAAANGE! Her voice is beautiful. I don't listen to it as much though. 8.5/10
I DON'T WANNA CRY: Although Mariah hates this song now, I still love it. The sad, slow, spanish guitar, Mariah singing in a low tone, no over-the-top vocals, just perfect. It's one of Mariah's saddest songs... Another #1 hit. 10/10
SOMEDAY: Mariah picks up the tempo here with this dated-yet-still-awesome song. This upbeat song is about a guy who left her but she's the only one for him... But when he'll come back. he'll have to think again cause she won't need his love anymOOOOOORE! Somehow, even an upbeat song like this has awesome vocals. Yet again, another #1. 10/10
VANISHING: A Mariah classic for every fan. It wasn't a radio single, yet most of her fans think of this song as one of their favourites. The lyrics are sad - everyone can relate to one point. The vocals are really really superb but at first listen I was too caught up in the lyrics to even realize she was belting and doing long notes. Incredible, slow, heartfelt song. 10/10
ALL IN YOUR MIND: Mid-tempo song. Instant favourite of mine. The lyrics are sweet, the verses with the breathy vocals are divine, the chorus is really catchy.. And, of course, Mariah's belting is on point. The high notes at the end are just WHOA. .. There is kind of a reggae-ish breakdown at the end, that's where the best vocals are featured. 10/10
ALONE IN LOVE: It's a sad ballad, but for some reason I don't listen to it as much... It's kind of lacking something. Somehow it's heartfelt, and more RnB than pop, so I don't know what there is not to like. It's not as memorable, I guess. 8/10
YOU NEED ME: Mariah picks up the tempo yet again. This song is the bomb!! From the guitar intro to the pop chorus to the electric guitar break to the high note.. It's just instantly catchy. It's about this guy who want to leave her but she wants him to remember he needs her. It's just awesome. 10/10
SENT FROM UP ABOVE: The tempo slows down A LITTLE. this song is pretty upbeat. It's really RnB, it's catchy, lyrics a little cheesy but the vocal arrangements are very pretty. Another great song. 9.5/10
PRISONER: Ooh, Mariah's rapping song. It's kind of awkward to hear her rap, but it's cute. 'You're just a player/That's not my format' lol. Of course, the rap is a minimal part of the song. It's mainly about that 'You dont think that I'll be strong enough/No, baby now/I won't be a prisoner of YOUR LOVVVE' Great vocals, catchy upbeat song. 10/10
LOVE TAKES TIME: ANOTHER #1. This hearfelt breakup ballad is one of my favourite tracks. I had it on repeat for like 4 hours once. Vocals are great but not over-the-top... It's another one of Ms. Carey's saddest songs. 10/10
So even if I wasn't even born when this cd was released, I enjoy it as much or more as anyone. Some songs sound dated, but for some odd reason, it sounds fresh, I still enjoy them.
I had a vision of love...
And it was aaaaaaaaaa-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-lll that you...
Turned out to beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...
Free Music Review: A drop dead classic, however... Hit: 3 StarsMariah Carey's debut album is still the one that i remember best.
I kind of lost interest in her since '94, but i have to admit that her self-titled album made a considerable impression on me, 15 years ago. I thought, wow, the new 'whitney houston' but more powerful, more versatile, more craftful and on top of that she writes the songs herself (so we're told), the melodies fit the lyrics like a glove, perfect! But do i still like to listen to this album or do i stick to pondering about it? That an artist like, say, celine dion has a pleasurable voice to listen to is something about which there is much more unanimity than in the case of mariah carey. She is huge bastion of stylistic mastership, a sofisticated insider of a 'genre', never mind about what the name of that genre would be. But a genre or a style is like the shell of a nut, it's what's inside that counts. Do we really like her voice? Where does that sound come from anyway? Is she yelling or is she singing? Does her music have the visceral infrastructure, the primary qualities that makes something pleasing to the ear and from there reaches our belly?
Ok i'm getting to harsh here, anyway there are still a reasonable number of songs of her (from ?ny album for that matter) that can still draw my attention, that i find touching and, yes, that i can listen to. Cheers!
Free Music Review: Mariah Carey is -the- best singer of all time. Hit: 5 StarsI became a Mariah Carey fan the first time I heard "Heartbreaker", but after "Rainbow", she didn't really catch my attention again until "The Emancipation of Mimi". I purchased this CD without having ever heard any songs from it, and I loved the entire CD. I don't have any complaints on any songs. Mariah Carey's vocals are simply amazing, and her songs are catchy and very well written and produced. I'm not going to be one of those fans that says "Everything after 'Butterfly' is crap because there's too many guest appearances". I honestly think Mariah does good with anything she's given and this particular album really highlights her vocals more than anything. "Vision of Love" and "There's Got To Be A Way" are the two best songs on the album, although all tracks are great. I loved this album.
Free Music Review: the album that introduced Mariah to the world..... Hit: 5 StarsThis album is, for me, one of the most powerful, stirring and emotionally charged debuts from one of the most recognized and popular contemporary singers of our time. The self-titled album, from a then eighteen year old diva named Mariah Carey, would change our perception of contemporary R&B and the power of the human voice. This young lady, with her sparkling five octave range, perfect pitch, and a voice mature beyond her years, touched our hearts and launched her career back in 1990.
This album gets started with "Vision of Love," a great gospel-influenced tune, reminiscent of Aretha Franklin and other inspirational, vocally gifted artists from the 1950s and 1960s. This could almost be called a spiritual, with pop leanings. "There's Got To Be A Way" touches on the theme of poverty and the personal responsibility all of us have to do our part in society for those that the world has forgotten. The transition from song to song is beautiful. Will you be bored? No. Will you be amazed? Most definitely. This was just the beginning, too.......You have got to give this a listen!
Free Music Review: Her Best! Hit: 5 StarsI love this one the best. My favorite song on here is, All In Your Mind. This is a must buy!
