Just 13 years old when the 'Paper Roses' album was released, Marie Osmond was catapulted to stardom on the back of the success of the title track which would become her biggest solo single ever. The album itself isn't amazing, a lot of covers and unremarkable songs written for her by producer Sonny James, but it's lovely to hear it again! Her singing is a little 'raw' in places but then again, she was 13!
'In My Little Corner Of The World' came less than a year later but was far less popular. I always loved the title track but it didn't catch fire like 'Roses' did. It's the same mixture as with her debut, covers and a few new tunes. Her takes on 'Everybody's Somebody's Fool' and 'Singing The Blues' are fun and 'Invisible Tears' and 'True Love's A Blessing' are lovely to hear again as well. It has to be said these aren't the greatest Osmonds' albums you'll ever hear. Marie seemed to be pushed in the direction of a country version of Donny and although the sound suited her, I don't think as much thought went into these releases as there should have been.
'Who's Sorry Now' concluded Marie's initial country run before her releases with Donny and her 4th album 'This Is The Way That I Feel' gave her poppier songs to perform.
As ever, these CDs sound really good. You'd never think 36 years had passed since 'Paper Roses' and I heartily recommend them to fans and completists alike.

The 'Paper Roses' album hit No.59 in America whilst both In My Little Corner Of The World single and LP reached the lower regions of the Hot 100 in the USA. Both albums have been lovingly remastered by Tim Turan and feature original LP artwork along with in-depth liner notes by Phil 'Mr. '70s' Hendriks and stacks of rare picture sleeves for all the related singles.
