Free Music Notes for Holy Wood (In The Shadow Of The Valley Of Death)Free Music Review: HOLY WOOD IS NEEDFUL THING FOR WORLD. Hit: 5 Stars
2 years ago i bought my first Manson cd and it was MEC. ANIMALS. I liked it so much that aftwer few weeks i bought ACSS that is one of the best album in history just like PINK FLOYD'S THE WALL.MANSON is very special artist what you can hear listening his albums. HOLY WOOD is important album it is the end of trilogy-(part 1 ACSS,part 2 M.A. and part 3 HOLY WOOD) so if you have and if you like ANTICHRIST and ANIMALS you will like this album too.it is must have for every MM fan or rock/metal fan. The new album is centered on Adam, who has experienced the subject matter of both "ANTICHRIST SUPERSTAR" and "MECHANICAL ANIMALS". This third and final piece of a musical trilogy is the backdrop to the story of "HOLY WOOD", which he say is the darkest and heaviest offering from him for now.On this album MANSON inspired by the alchemical Adam Kadmon, who was thought to be an androgyne much like the one Manson portrayed on the cover of MECHANICAL ANIMALS.MECHANICAL ANIMALS was in fact an anagram: "Marilyn Manson is an alchemical man." Music and lyrics are mix of bouth ANTICHRIST and ANIMALS-some are slow and some are fast and heavy. I can't say much much about album because you have to listen it more than once to know what he had to say in songs and what is the meaning of album.only thing i can say that i like it and so will you.(cover of album and pictures are great) HOLY WOOD IS NEEDFUL THING FOR WORLD. This is just a beganing of MARILYN. he have just started ,he has lot of years in front of him and you will see all these people who say that he is mad or sick after 10 or 20 years will say that he is true artist and just heavyer version of JOHN LENNON or ROGER WATERS(pink floyd). 4 A + A IV
Free Music Review: Great Manson Release Hit: 5 Stars
This In my opinion is not the greatest Manson Release, but it ranks prolly 2nd Greatest Manson Release. All the tracks on the album are great. Works quite well into the trilogy, including Antichrist Superstar, and Mechanical Animals.'Holywood and 'Antichrist Superstar' are absolutely the 2 best releases in the concept albums. The trilogy which is yet to be explained. Besides not knowing what it fully means all 3 albums belonging to the 'trilogy' are great, this is probably one the darker Manson releases, of course besides ACSS. My Track Listings/Ratings: 1. Free Music Review: how Holy Wood is different from ACSS Hit: 5 Stars
I have had this CD since it came out in 2001 and at first I was swept up in the whole idea that Marilyn Manson is now boring because Holy Wood sounds like- or seem to sound like- ACSS, even though I perfectly understood the genius of its subject matter. Recently, though, I have found myself listening to it again and liking it more than ever.. Ive also realized how much different it sounds from ACSS. ACSS is very hyper-surrealist Broadway-meets-totalitarian political rally with a dab of New Orleans red light district twisted sexuality in a somewhat sarcastic yet totally nihilistic package- which is why it has such a grandiose and bombastic feel to it (the very name AntiChrist Superstar I think is a sarcastic take on the broadway musical "JesusChrist Superstar"). Holy Wood, by contrast(while still pissed off), takes its influence from a cross between early ninties alternative rock and 18th- 19th century American Federalist-style funeral march.. the kind you would have probably heard from Abraham Lincoln's funeral procession or JFK's. Songs like Valentine's Day, Cruci-fiction in Space and A Place in the Dirt prove this point. If you still have a hard time trying to cojure that image in your mind try watching the Coma White video, which served as a foreshadowing for this album, or a Mark Ryden "abe lincoln" painting. It's meant to be dark in that way since Holy Wood deals with assassinations, the Columbine High School shooting and the succeeding fallout-scapegoating, America's love affair with its "Guns, God and Government", America's fascination with violence and, as Manson calls it: The Dead Rock Star.In a way this whole album is one long 19-track funeral procession for Uncle Sam. BEAUTIFUL.
Free Music Review: Loved it! Hit: 5 Stars
Since debuting with 1994's Portrait of an American Family, most people have either dismissed the members of Marilyn Manson as cartoonish shock rockers or been alarmed by their anti-establishment, anti-organized religion, anti-"normal" views. This may explain why most people have failed to notice the band's recent musical evolution: Previously merely noisy screechers with no sense of how to play their instruments, Marilyn Manson is now an accomplished and complex industrial-strength hard rock band, responsible for such great songs as "The Beautiful People," "The Dope Show," "Tourniquet," and "Coma White." It's a point driven home by the group's new album, Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death). Though not as strong or consistent as the glammy Mechanical Animals (a hauntingly powerful collection any band would be hard-pressed to top), Holy Wood instead bridges the gap between that album and its dirtier, raspier predecessor, Antichrist Superstar, with songs that are catchy on the inside, but noisy on the outside. While such tunes as "The Fight Song" and "The Death Song" have scraggly guitar tones and keyboard atmospherics, they also have the kind of underlying melodies and infectious guitar riffs found in all great rock tunes. The same can be said for the album's more poignant moments, "Coma Black" and "In the Shadow of the Valley of Death," which are coy but tender, with the raspy atmosphere found on Antichrist. Holy Wood ultimately stands as yet another powerful statement from an increasingly powerful band. My personal Favorite is "Burning Flag".
Free Music Review: ALL HAIL TO THE THIRD AND FINAL BEAST Hit: 5 Stars
Holy Wood is as intense and haunting in it's songwriting and cd artwork as in it's excellent production, done by MM himself and David Sardy. If there was one album in this decade that can rival Pink Floyd's The Wall, this is IT,tied together with Antichrist Superstar and Mechanical Animals,is a story that lets us experience, the birth of a star, the fame, the self destruction, and the hatred of what's become. You can make a "best of" cd alone off all the great songs on this disc,"Love Song","Born Again","Cruci-fixtion in Space","Nobodies" and "Disposable Teens" being among the best. Holy Wood is at it's strongest when upbeat and aggressive with said songs but also hits a nice groove of somberness midway with "In the shadow of the valley of death" and my favorite "Lamb of God" There is also a multimedia video of a Marilyn Manson autopsy which plays when put into your computer, which is freaky, beautiful and artistic all at the same time.As with all artists the evolve like Manson does,it's hard to say whether this is his best cd yet, being that they(his other albums)are all so different from this one. But it is by far the most played MM cd in my collection and never fails to hit the spot when played from start to finish or just when random songs are being picked out to be played at full volume. The end result is another Manson must have,as always,no matter how you look at it. Also check out the AMAZING score Manson contributed to the Resident Evil sdtk,it is the most mind blowing industrial music i have heard in a long time.
