Free Music Review: A Different Kind of Manson Album, Terrific Though
Hit: 5 Stars

A lot of Manson fans don't like this album. The deciding factor could be that his style has changed a little bit or the fact that longtime bassist Twiggy Ramirez left and joined A Perfect Circle and was replaced by Tim Skold. Manson designed the album like an old 40s movie. This kind of inspired the song "mOBSCENE".
I think this is one of Mansons better albums. Every song on the album is good. His lyrics on this like all his albums are spectacular. There's a line in the song "Slutgarden" that says
"I memorize the words to the porno movies". To some people that may be sick. To me it's pure brilliance. Here are the tracks and my thoughts:
This is the New Sh*t: Terrific song. The lyrics are basically about what a lot of people think about Manson. Great chorus.
mOBSCENE: Whan an awesome song. The 1st single is really awesome.
Doll Dagga Buzz Buzz Zigety Zag: Does this song mean anything? No. But a word like cocaingels is pure Manson.
Use Your Fist and Not Your Mouth: I love this song. It defines Manson in a way. Terrific Lyrics.
The Golden Age of Grotesque: This song took a while to grow on me, but it's not horrible. It got stuck in my head.
(s)AINT: The video that was banned in America is a little fruity but the song is awesome. Lyrics are great.
Ka-Boom Ka-Boom: Manson wrote this when a critic said Mansons songs weren't heavy anymore. Manson probed him wrong.
Slutgarden: I memorize the words to the porno movies. That is quite possibly the coolest line Manson has ever written.
Spade: Manson sounds really cool when he sings the chorus. Cool song.
Para-Noir: The women of the world list why they f**k Manson. Then Manson sings a great chorus.
The Bright Young Things: Awesome song. Could be a teenagers anthem: "Good for nothing but being everything that's bad".
Better of Two Evils:This song is killer. I love how Manson knows a lot of people hate him and he sings about it.
Vodevil: I love this song. Music is great.

This is an awesome CD. I think that Skold is a great new addition to the band. This is the last CD John5 will do with Manson since he left the band in 2004. A+.

Free Music Review: Manson evolves like the others are afraid to
Hit: 5 Stars

Marilyn Manson evolves like no other musician or artist in today's music field. Most bands stick with a formula and ride it out until they have nothing left, only to repeat what they've done previously.
On the Golden Age of Grotesque, Manson moves forward without destroying the crediblity that he has acquired through his amazing artwork, strong singles, intelligent interviews and overall staying power.
It's apparent when This Is The New Sh*t starts off that we have entered a new phase, as we did with Mechanical Animals.
With the help of Tim Skold(KMFDM)this album has a feel all it's own and it works in many ways. The production, which is crystal clear, has guitars that kick in with amazing drive, bass that lays on the bottom nicely, and layered vocals that grab your attention immediately.
Though I thought that Holy Wood had many great songs, it had too much down-time in the middle. The GOAG is an excellent and enjoyable listen from start to finish.
Songs like Use Your Fist and Not Your Mouth, mOBSCENE, S(AINT), and Better Of Two Evils prove the songwriting remains catchy without losing the hard edge that one would expect from Manson.
Lyrically the album is full of great imagery, creativity, made-up words and phrases that fit perfectly with the music that accompanies it.
More concerned this time with the word-flow and less about the "message" already covered in great depth on Holy Wood is a more content and confident Manson; one that isn't afraid to sing the line..Doll Dagga Buzz Buzz Zigety Zag and make it sound like it means something.
In my opinion, this is the band's strongest album next to Mechanical Animals and is a must-have for your collection.
I don't think that Twiggy leaving the band really affected much, he always has done what Manson instructed him to, and I don't think his writing contribution would have changed what the album was going to end up like anyway.

So, go buy this one, whether you're a new fan or a skeptical current one, you won't be dissapointed.
It didn't go to #1 on Billboard for no reason, Manson is back and better than ever.

Free Music Review: This is Evolution
Hit: 5 Stars

Evolution...the continual desire to create something new. OK, this may not have been one of their best CD's. But it still holds the energy and the message to continue forth. I personally think this CD is GREAT. I really did not get into his early stuff. I really got into MM when Trent put him on the right path with ACSS. And the band is continuing to evolve with new experiments into approaches to music style. This, above all things should be why the band deserves respect. Take the Rolling Stones. Their music style really has not changed in 40 frickin years! (The recording technology has!) How stagnant! The MM project continues to try many different approaches to OUR entertainment. I don't care, if one album is better or worse than another...they are ALL good.

Marilyn Manson is Satan. Give me a break. Martha Stewart is Satan. I have dealt with people that beleive that if you do not go to church and worship God, you are EVIL! Manson exploits this to get your attention and b***h slap you with REALITY. We live in a corporate back stabbing world (Who all attend church). We all have a dark side. But I do not use it at work or play. Have a bad day of work and listen to "use your fist and not your mouth" on the way home. You will have vented all anger, and the day can go on without bringing your attitude problem home. Come to think of it...I listen to MM at home as well. Must mean I'm evil...

Excellent lyricist, dynamic voice, a band that continues to grow more powerfull, and contrary to what else I've read, this is NOT metal. This is INDUSTRIAL. Although, I am not a big fan of labels. Metalheads don't like GAOG. Oh Well... Welcome to the NEW S**T. For that matter, metal hasn't changed in 40 years. The only good modern metal is now considered alternative.

That's my opinion. If I got anyone upset...GET OVER IT.

Have A Wonderful Day!

Free Music Review: An Extremely Underrated, Listenable Rock Record
Hit: 5 Stars

I adore Marilyn Manson's Golden Age of Grotesque album. I think it's so brilliant - my favorite track on it, and my fave Manson track ever, musically speaking [lyrically, I love The Nobodies most], is the title track. I love the way he changes his voice on it, and I really believe it showcases his vocal talents well.

I think, just because GAoG is catchier than the other albums, a lot of people wrote it off as either a "sell out" [I loathe that term], or just plain crap. I've loved it since the first listen.

It's hard for me to compare Manson's albums because they're all so different, which is why I have continued being a fan for so long. I mean, you have the rawness of Portrait..., the anger of Antichrist..., the glamishness lashing out about drugs and Hollywood on MA, and crap about religion on Holy Wood - there's an album for every mood, I swear.

GAoG is my "I'm in a good mood and I need some Manson" album. I adore it.

I must say, you can't expect someone to write gloomy sounding songs all the time. Just look at KoRn - five or six albums, and they all sound EXACTLY the same. That's what I love about Manson - NONE of Manson's albums sound the same; they are all unique, with their own unique themes.

If you don't appreciate this album, all I can say is that you need to open up your ears and mind more and look below the surface. This album is ingenious.

Free Music Review: DAMN GOOD ROCK ALBUM
Hit: 5 Stars

Just when you think these guys have pulled out every trick we should be allowed to think of, MM does it again. Only in attitude and deceptive complexity does this album even begin to reflect what this band has done before. Although Twiggy's departure was a big let down, and Tim Skold's induction was in no way predictable, I can see why he left. For one thing, I would hate to see him loose the dreads. One of the greates things about this album is that everything feels so simple, but it is that simplicity that makes every song absolutely flawless (unless their intention was to release it perfectly flawed). Anyone familliar with John 5's capabilities as a guitarist may find that Manson inhibited his creativity. But if you listen closely enough, you can see that he is expressing his technical creativity in other ways. Every time I listen to this album I hear something different, and I find more threads that can tie it to the vague but undeniable conceptual themes. If you'd like to understand the subjects adreassed in this album, and are subsequently ambitious enough to unravel the mystery of his German Caberet fetish, AND unravel John 5's name, I recommend you start with Dan Browns book Angel's and Demons, and then delve into some of his sources, like Robert Anton Wilson's Illuminatus! trilogy. You can find both on AMAZON.COM, along with many other facinating books on these subjects.
