Free Music Review: Damn...
Hit: 5 Stars

In the beginning, I was scared of Marilyn Manson's music, hearing on the news that multiple teens have been influenced to suicide when listening to his music. That was in 1997. One day, I was listening to a cd my friend had brought and it sounded great. The lyrics were catchy and the music was mesmerizing. I didn't know it was then that I was listening to Marilyn Manson's Antichrist Superstar album. It was beautiful. Well to me it was. But yea, I came upon this album and decided to buy it, being the metal head that I am. I was not disappointed. His lyrics on this album are true and actually very catchy. Here's the overlook on the CD.

1. Intro - Sounds of a movie reel. Unique and haunting all at once.

2. This Is The New Sh*t - This song is beautiful. With it's beautiful guitar riffs and catchy lyrics ("Now that you know who, I got the you know what, stick it you know where, you know why, you don't care") that will make you bang your head and jump up and down. This song can be found on the Matrix Reloaded soundtrack. Great song. (5.5/5)

3. mOBSCENE - First single off of the album. Again, the guitaring is addicting. The lyrics are great and catchy as hell. This is a headbanging here. (5/5)

4. Doll-Dagga Buzz-Buzz Ziggety-Zag - Another headbanger. The drums will make you twist your hair around and jump up and down. The lyrics are catchy andtalk about how all the punk rockers and thug rockers are just all rockers anyways. (5/5)

5. Use Your Fist And Not Your Mouth - Nice beginning guitaring. This song will make you realize what real metal and rock nowadays sound like. Catchy lyrics. Definite headbanger. Beautiful song. (5/5)

6. The Golden Age Of Grotesque - Circus sounds in the beginning with haunting beats of drums and Marilyn's haunting voice make this song a beautiful song. Not as fast-paced as the other songs, but still good. (4.5/5)

7. (s)AINT - I actually heard this song in Hot Topic before I bought the album. It immediately made me go "What's this song?" to my friends, but it only took a second for me to realize it was the metal God himself. Cocky but catchy lyrics. Addicting metal beat and beautiufl rhythm. (5.5/5)

8. Ka-Boom Ka-Boom - This song is a slow headbanger at first. But then it gets harder and faster towards the chorus. The beat is hella nice. The lyrics will get you singing along in no time. (5/5)

9. Slutgarden - This song is sooo good. The lyrics are nice and this song just gets me. Slow at first, but gets hard at the chorus. Beautiful guitar riffs after the chorus. Manson's voice is so haunting and sexy in this song. *droolz* Catchy lyrics ("When I said we, I know I meant me, And when I said sweet, I meant DIRTY!") (6/5)

10. Spade - Probably the most haunting song of the album. Slow beat, his beautiful haunting voice, beautiful lyrics makes one beautiful song! Damn, this song brings you back to the old Manson days of "Sweet Dreams". Seductive guitaring (5.5/5)

11. Para-noir - This song is talking about f*cking for what reasons. Nice and slow electric rhythm. One of the slower songs on this album. It's definitely hypnotizing though. (5/5)

12. The Bright Young Things - A headbanger from the beginning. Nice guitaring. The lyrics are crazy as hell. Catchy ass song. His screaming and singing. I love it when he whispers. *droolz* (5/5)

13. Better Of Two Evils - This song will make you move, whether it's banging your head, or tapping your fingers. Quick-paced beat. It talks about haters. This is a will-be-Classic Manson song. (5/5)

14. Vodevil - The beginning has an old showtune playing on the piano. This is definite future-controversial song with catchy lyrics and addicting guitaring. This song will make you bang your head. I love this song. (5/5)

15. Obsequy (The Death Of Art) - This outro has a haunting piano playing with Manson talking vaguely in the background. I think this is a beautiful way to end this great album. Haunting and tragic.

So overall this album is the bombsh*t! It's catchy as hell and will definitely get you movin. If you're a hardcore metal fan, but you've never like Manson, I totally recommend this album. You'll discover that this is the classic things that made Manson a metal God. And of course, all the Manson fans should buy this album. I went from not liking Manson, to loving him. This is now one of my favorite albums of all time. Go buy it!

Free Music Review: This is the new cd
Hit: 5 Stars

First i should say i love the album as a whole and find it hard to dislike anything manson has done thus far in his career. I have been a manson fan for about 7 years now, i completely came aboard during the "Smells Like Children" era but was around for the "Potrait of an american family".
This cd IS a step forward for manson. It features all the usual wordplay and ear ache joy that i love about his music BUT not all fans are going to feel this way about the cd/dvd.
I suppose the best way to do this is to do it track by track.
01/ Intro (1:14)-- A good way to start off the cd, though definitely not a track fans are going to cling to.
02/ This Is The New Sh*t (4:19)--Most people immediately hate this song especially the title. I thought this song was bizarre when i first heard it but immediately after i heard it i wanted to hear it again and i just keep listening to it.
03/ mOBSCENE (3:25)--First time i listened through the cd i thought this was the worst track(ironic because it is the first single). Quickly has grown on me, very catchy with a very cool video
04/ Doll Dagga Buzz-Buzz Ziggety-Zag (4:10)--Some people will like this one but i have come to the conclusion that this is the weakest track on the cd. Good lyrics though like all the other tracks
05/ Use Your Fist and Not Your Mouth (3:34)-- Very Good Song. The Bass is very nice. It would be wise if they used this for a single.
06/ The Golden Age Of Grotesque (4:05)-- A quieter track in the vein of "Holywood"'s title track. I'm told this song was recorded in one take.
07/ s(AINT) (3:42)-- Beat and guitar oriented track. good music.
08/ Ka-boom Ka-boom (4:02)-- Another track that will immediately annoy older fans but i really believe this is one of the overall best tracks on the cd to drive with the windows down to. (especially with the lyrics)
09/ Slutgarden (4:09)--Reminds me a good deal of antichrist era manson. highly addictive track. I think almost every track on this cd has something sexual about it (other than the rhythm).
10/ Spade (4:34)--Dark track, Reminds me of the last few tracks on "Holywood".
11/ Para-noir (6:01)--One of the tracks one the cd that will make it as a classic manson track. The guitar is very nice. Angry then quiet in aa blur.
12/ The Bright Young Things (4:19)--Another track that would be very good for radio. Some good lyrics and that demon scream manson is great at. The background effects are very cool.
13/ The Better Of Two Evils (3:48)-- I have no clue what this reminds me of. I can't deny that this track has a definite kind of hip hop tint to it. Also makes me think of "Moulin rouge" for odd reasons (which manson did have some involvement with)
14/ Vodevil (4:39)--Nice crunchy track. Some of the effects recall "The Downward Spiral" for me.Odd yes i know. More sex lyrics.
15/Obsequy (The Death Of Art)(1:35)--Nice pretty closing track like you would expect to hear in a german expressionist movie. Not sure what the audio is that overlays the piano on this. Im a little sad there isn't a small hidden snippet at the end of this or even very creepy effect ala the russian roullette at the end of "holywood"

Very cool album overall. Something interesting about it is the sound quality. The Normal cd is roughly 192 kbps. This cd reads as 1411 kpbs. While i doubt we can hear a real difference it is very nice and crisp with awesome bass lows. I suppose i should address the dvd too. The dvd is ~26 minutes in length and i havent discovered any special features yet. The Short film Doppleherz is made around a bit manson recorded on i believe april 1 2002 where he was very suicidal and wanted something weird to be his final message to the world. The visuals are interesting and feature two girls strapped together with flesh toned corsettes with feminine body parts made into the corsettes. This will probably shock most parents sufficiently.

This has the potential to be manson's most popular cd. Older fans will definitely be tuned into this fact and be very wary. Most who i have spoken to have had only two views on the cd. i didnt like it but now its grown on me and i really hate it right now. Yes when i mentioned earlier that it has a hip hoppish edge i didnt lie ( a very VERY faint edge). I do think Manson should be proud of the cd though. Enjoy

Free Music Review: MANSON'S BEST YET!
Hit: 5 Stars

I am a BIG MM fan, and this is his best record yet! The style of this album is different from his previous offerings in that Manson has matured as an artist, and noticeably so. His wonderful snarling presence is still quite evident, but it's been refined. A bit of something unmentionable wrapped in silk, if you will. The reviewer who likened the sound of this record to "Pre-WWII Berlin" hit it right on the head. The opening piece, "Thaeter", conjures visions of Fritz Lang's "Metropolis." Likewise, the closing piece "The Death of Art" is also very mood-setting. Throughout the album, Manson makes references to things of a pre-Nazi-esque nature - and the topics are as timely now as they would have been then.

I have to disagree with reviewers who have said that Manson has "forsaken" his old style with this record. It IS different, yes, but Manson's original, recognizable style is still very much present. In fact, he has benifitted greatly from his new collaboration with bassist Tim Skold. Tim has a real heavy bass sound (I'm betting he plays a Fender Jazz or similar bass) and is a solid player, laying down secure bass lines for every track. His production skills are obviously great too, as the mix on the record is fantastic. This record differs from Manson's others mostly in its level of "polish." He's gotten more sophisticated, and it's made him even better than before. Just listen to any of the great tunes from "Portrait of an American Family" (like "Lunchbox"), then listen to anything off this new record, and you'll see what I mean.

The "Alice Cooper/Welcome to my Nightmare" feel is definitely evident, with "This is the New S***" or "Use Your Fist and Not Your Mouth" replacing "School's Out" as the teen anthem. In fact, a lot of the feel and phrasing "felt" like Cooper; in my book, this is a very good thing, as Alice Cooper really paved the way for any and every band that has ever donned makeup and played loud'n raunchy rock-n-roll - from Kiss to Hanoi Rocks to Marilyn Manson and every one in between.

My favorite tracks are "This is the New S***" (also featured on the "Matrix Reloaded" soundtrack), "Slutgarden" and "Para-Noir".

I have not yet watched the bonus DVD, but I am sure it's going to be amazing. If Manson did it, you can be sure it will be interesting at the very least. (If you missed his photos of his sweetie Dita Von Teese that ran in Playboy late last year, you owe it to yourself to check them out.) I am constantly being amazed and impressed by Mr.Manson's creativity and vision. He juxtaposes the beautiful with the horrific so well, we not only cannot look away, we don't want to! We eagerly await his next offering and wallow in it when it comes. And love every minute of it!

In my opinion, every song on this record is a hit. The weakest offering is "Spade", and even that rocks! My only complaint is that I REALLY can't get away with listening to this CD at work, with lyrics like "You're the church, I'm the steeple, when we f***, we're all God's people." LOVE the ideas expressed though, but I doubt my colleagues would get it. ;-)

Go out and get this record. You will NOT be disappointed!

Free Music Review: Golden Age
Hit: 5 Stars

Well, with a new Manson release, it's always safe to expect the unexpected. I really liked the whole 1920's concept for this album. I thought it was a great substance for Manson to cover. I knew this album would be a branch out, considering it is the first album since Holy Wood, which concluded his "trilogy" of albums. Also, it is the first album without bassist/songwriter Twiggy. This was indeed, a branch out. I'll go ahead and go through each song.

1. Thaeter: A short introduction track. This is the begining of the show.

2. This Is The New S***: A repetitive, straight to the point mockery of radio friendly music. There is some rapping in this song, but it's merely a rendition of the point Manson is trying to prove.

3. mOBSCENE: The obvious, first single for the album, nevertheless, great lyrics, and great riffs.

4. Doll-Dagga Buzz-Buzz Ziggety-Zag: This song keeps with the 1920s concept. It is almost like a swing, rock song. Very fast paced, almost dance-worthy. Probably my favorate song on the album.

5. Use Your Fist And Not Your Mouth: Another Manson anthem. Nothing really new, just a good song.

6. The Golden Age Of Grotesque: Another song that keeps the 1920s concept. This song is mostly vocally driven and is much slower than any other song on the album. The lyrics are, once agian, great.

7.(s)AINT: A very fresh song. You can tell that it's Manson, but you can also tell that it has been taken to a new level musically.

8. Ka-boom Ka-boom: This is probably my least favorate song on the album. I don't know why, I just don't like the chorus. Most of my friends think that I'm nuts for not liking this song, so maybe I am.

9. Slutgarden: Another fresh song musically. Manson lets you in on how he has been used by women for fame.

10. Spade: Another softer song. This one really stands out. I like this song, but it has sort of a different feel from the rest of the songs on the album.

11. Para-noir: Sort of a long, industrial track, clocking in at over 6 minutes. This is another one about being used by a girl. The verse lyrics are sampled voices of a girl talking about using Manson, while the chorus is sung by Manson. There is a really weird guitar solo in this one as well that shouldn't be missed

12. The Bright Young Things: Another song with the new feel. A great song about artists.

13. Better Of Two Evils: Another rap influenced song. I like the lyrics, but I just can't stand the rapping, sorry.

14. Vodevil: The perfect ending song. Nobody can say "f*** you" to the world better than Manson can.

15. Obsequey (The Death Of Art): A short, closing, instrumental track. Perfect way to end a great album.

To sum this all up, I don't think this is a perfect album, few albums out there are flawless, Holy Wood maybe. It's still amazing how fresh Manson is able to keep all of his material. Each album represents an era. It's great that there are still musicians out there that take their work as seriously as Manson does. Highly recommended.

Free Music Review: Redemption after Suffering
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is haunting and beautiful. Manson has had a very interesting career, aesthetically and politically speaking. "Shock," a concept so highly expected of him, comes in many much more subliminal ways in this album. His early work, "Portrait of an American Family," and "Smells Like Children" display a raw aggressive, loud and angry talent. "Antichrist Superstar" was a manifestation of his dark rocker status, heavy, loud, and more blatantly anti-christian and "shocking" than much of America was willing to openly embrace at the time. With "Mechanical Animals" came a new androgynous concept of shock, which disoriented the American public into wondering what to consider shocking, what was socially taboo, and almost forced the public to accept that AMrilyn was more than the voice of an anti-christian deity. Taht being said, musically, this album was substantially different than any of his previous. An exploration of more monotony, with very similar songs exploring similar themes, developments of personal inquisitions as opposed to public exposes, it had a much more ambivalent social message. Manson returned to some darker, heavier roots with "Holy Wood," and older fans were treated with a fusion of the old and new - many dark, socially unacceptable subjects expored and discussed, less introspective and stronger guitar riffs than the previous album, this dark comedy of errors was a triumph. His next studio album, "The Golden Age of Grotesque," is a testament ot his everchanging concept of art and society. After a very successful art showing in LA, Manson has once again proven how broad he can be with an amazing album. Very different than alot of his previous work, but strikingly reminiscent at the same time, this album strecthes your imagination and insists on an "intelligent" audience. While it will be enjoyed by many, it was created for the few, and it will be understood by the fewer. Overly laden with incredibly visceral images and messages, inscribed within equally perverse and beautiful melodies and choruss, this alsum has a lot to offer to art and society as a whole. I rate it high. I must say, though, that my sentiments towards it have grown through listening to it... the first time through I didnt like it nearly as much as I do now. Give a few times around in your player before you criticize, the haunting and almost soulful sentiments grow on you...
