Free Music Notes for The Golden Age of GrotesqueFree Music Review: Getting Better and Better! Hit: 5 Stars
The Golden age of Grotesque is one of the best Manson albums to date. Marilyn Manson's last 5 albums have all stood on their own and didn't sound to much like the on before it, and this one is no exception. The sound feels alittle like "Holy Wood" in some places but GAOG is heavier, groovier, and with more electronics. Here's a run down of the songs. 1.Intro 10/10 Cool intro sets the mood well.2.This is the new stuff 10/10 This is one of the best songs on the album, very heavy and a great chorus. 3.mOBSCENE 10/10 Very cool songs, i love the cheerleaders! 4. Doll-Dagga Buzz-Buzz Ziggety-Zag 10/10 Very different song, this is a swing style song. A very good song. 5. Use Your Fist And Not Your Mouth 10/10 one of my personal favorite off this album. It's very groovy and has a great chorus. 6. The Golden Age Of Grotesque 8/10 A slower song on the album, i like mansons vocals on this song. 7.(s)AINT 10/10 This songs rocks, that's really all that can be said. 8. Ka-Boom Ka-Boom 10/10 A Good and heavy song, great chorus. 9. Slutgarden 10/10 When i said we, you know i meant me! Great song. 10. Spade 9/10 This song is allright, it's a little slow though. 11. Para-noir 10/10 This is my favorite song off this album, it's very groovy and has a very heavy chorus, this song is awesome. 12. The Bright Young Things 8/10 this song is pretty good nice chorus. 13. Better Of Two Evils 9/10 this is another really solid song. 14. Vodevil 9/10 Vodevil.....nuff said 15. Obsequy (The Death Of Art) 10/10 very good outro for this album wraps it up nicely. In conclusion, this is one of Mansons best albums ever. If your expecting something new and totally off the wall you'll probably be dissapointed. But if you like "Anti-Christ Superstar" and "Holy Wood" then you'll definatly like this album.
Free Music Review: The Golden Age of Grotesque Hit: 5 Stars
This is a new Manson for a new era. This is definitly not a repeat of his past albums. This has been the first time in a long time that Manson has had to make an album that could stand on it's own. After finally completing the story he created with Anti-Christ Superstar and finished with 2002's Holy Wood, Manson has a chance to explore new musical ground as well as reinvent his image a bit. Manson explores 1930's Berlin-esque era in his lyrics and appearance. Throwbacks to the Swing dancing sensation, Nazism, and Dadaism are littered throughout the confrontational ("Use your fist and not your mouth")and cynical, sexually-doused lyrics in this CD, which fit well with the music. The music itself is the usual Manson-esque rock mixed with a large dose of synth and other effects, probably due to new bassist Tim Skold, which completely helps the album in almost all areas. These effects do a very good job of envoking pictures to accompany the music. Sometimes one can't help but picture Tim Burton claymation-esque characters marching along to anthems like the title track and the intro Thaeter. The also setup moods for such songs like "(s)aint" and "The Bright Young Things", both of which are sure to surprise the listener (but none like the track "Doll-Dagga Buzz Buzz Ziggety-Zagg", which is a loud galloping example of Manson-meets 30's era swing music. A treat for the ears, definitely). Manson succeeds in making a frightful, rambunctious, powerful and wonderful album that can definitely stand on it's own. However, one must remember that Manson is not taking himself as seriously this time, but is still very clever with his lyrics (probably now more than ever). All in all, this is one of Manson's best, and definitely worth buying.
Free Music Review: One word can describe this Album BRILLIANCE Hit: 5 Stars
I have been a manson fan for about 2 years now, and i havce had mixed feelings about his last few albums. Anti- Christ Superstar was just pure excellence on Brians part, and Mechanicals animals was an excellent twist that was much different than ACS, but was awesome, if not better than ACS. As for Holywood, im not a real big fan of it, too many filler tracks, and you really have to search for the good tracks. Since I got this CD two weeks before its offical realease, i have not been able to stop listening to it. This cd brings back the style manson had in Mechanical Animals, which i really liked the best. It was more of what we call " Glam Rock" very medollic rock that you could sing and remember the words after the first listen, and be singing it for days. The Golden Age Of Grotesque has no bad tracks on it, whatsoever, but i do know that there are a few stand out tracks that have just blown me away. The song " Vodevil" has been played on repeat on my cd player many times, and I will be listening to it for a long time to come. Unlike many albums i have listened to over and over, this one never gets old and it never gets to where you have to put it away for a while. Oh yeah, defintly check out Doll Dagga Buzz Buzz Ziggety Zagg, it is one of the catchiest songs you will ever hear. BUY THIS ALBUM, even if you are one of those people that think they are scared of manson, or think that he should be brutally murdered, give the guy i chance, i used to feel the same way, and now i am a fanatic, and i am getting more and more people to listen to his music by simply forcing them to listen to it til they start to like it, then they never look back, and they become as big a fanatics as I am. GIVE THIS FREAK A CHANCE, YOU WONT REGRET IT
Free Music Review: Manson's Most Interesting Work Yet Hit: 5 Stars
Wow, where do I begin? First off this album is a masterpiece and stands out from the rest of his albums. It is very focused and the lyrics are something to ponder and are well thought. BUT, If your looking for stunning guitar work, unbelievable guitar solos or some really heavy, amazing industrial metal, then I would suggest checking out another band. This album contains some techno style beats and some samples, but that's not at all a bad thing people, sometimes it's good to give your eardrums a break. But in order to enjoy this album, you must have a taste for Manson's style and really enjoy and appreciate his other work. The sound is unique and only is enjoyed by a select few. I have a wide taste in music, I listen to Cradle of Filth, Dillinger Escape Plan, Thursday, Converge, Evergreen Terrace, Cannibal Corpse, Slayer and many other bands. I won't complain of the change in the sound because It's awesome. And I must say after giving this album a good listen to, it deserves 5 stars. Some may argue his other work was better..Okay, the other albums had more guitar and sounded more heavy..but I think he's matured in this record, the sound is more perfected. I recommend this album to any Manson fan or a fan of dark, gothic style music. If you're new to his music or sound then pick up some of his older albums first. But please don't complain about what the album is lacking, it's a very beautiful album. Again, if you like harder music or the sound isn't you, don't bother buying it. For those about to post one star reviews, what did you expect when you picked the album up? Some sort of spectacular display of musicianship? The best album ever? Come on. Anyway, get this album Manson fans! You won't regret it!!
Free Music Review: It's better than a sex scene Hit: 5 Stars
With this album, people are going to have to stop thinking of Manson as "just shock value". Listen to Doll-Dagga Buzz-Buzz Ziggety-Zag, or the song Golden Age Of Grotesque, and you'll se immediately that something great is going on here. The album contains historical references to the 30s not just in its words but also it's music (i.e. the beat to Doll-Dagga). It brings to life an era of desperation and creativity that has fallen into obscurity and been forgotten by many. Will Manson accomplish what he says he's trying to do, create a new era? Bring about the Golden Age of Grotesque in our society? I sure hope so, and judging by the contents of the album, it's entirely possible. The music rocks. Some of it (GOAG, for example) moves in new directions, while others remain heavy and headbangingly heavy. Some dark techno elements show up, like This Is The New Sh!T. In trying to find another manson album to compare it to, i come up blank. It's got the dark humor of portrait, the epic qualities and darkness of antichrist, the melodic elements of mechanical animals, the anger and social commentary of holy wood, and plenty of its own unique aspects. It's the first album since portrait that's not part of the trilogy, and i had wondered how such an album would stand on its own. The answer is now obvious. It's not a storyline, or a statement, it's simply what it says it is, an age. There are many depths to this album that will take listeners years to explore, and that's the point. Manson has given us a treasure to ponder and live in a new age. Hopefully many people will join the ranks of the "low art gloominati", a complex and highly interesting realm.
