Free Music Review: Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This
Hit: 5 Stars

Praise: Manson is a master of nihilistic and sardonic masterpieces and "The Golden Age Of Grotesque" is just that, a masterwork. Not since 1998's "Mechanical Animals" has Manson sounded this good. Tracks like "This Is The New S**t", "mOBSCENE", "Doll-Dagga Buzz-Buzz Ziggety-Zag", "Use Your Fist and Not Your Mouth", "The Golden Age Of Grotesque", "(s)AINT", "Ka-boom Ka-boom" and "Slutgarden" make a powerhouse assault of industrial pop hits. Manson, like Nine Inch Nails, knows how to make the right blend of alternative and pop--dark, menacing, heavy rock anthems. This cd is a great improvement over 2000's "Holywood" which lacked any memorable tracks.

Criticism: Like all Manson cds, there is some fodder such as "Spade", "Para-noir" and "The Bright Young Things" are sub-par in comparison to the other ten tracks, but this is only a minor glitch in an otherwise perfect cd. The dvd "Doppleherz", however, is a total waste. Manson espouses poetic irrelevance over a heavily edited, cut-and-paste job 26 minute film. Boring, contrived and self-indulgent to say the least (thankfully it was free).

Conclusion: Manson turns out a winner this time out, nearly ascending to the greatness of "Antichrist Superstar" and equalling "Mechanical Animals". The negative reviewers must not be true Manson fans because this is certainly one of his better cds.

Free Music Review: MANSON HAS RETURNED!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been a Manson fan since "Portrait Of An American Family" and was blown away by "Antichrist Superstar" and "Mechanical Animals". It seems due to the more close minded fans complaints of "Mechanical Animals" that Manson was trying to win some of them back with his last album "Holywood". While I found that album to be enjoyable it offered few things that Manson hadn't already done a hundred times. The album was bland and a rehashed version of his best works. Onward to "The Golden Age Of Grotesque"... this album finds Manson recreating himself and starting over with a new band and a new sound. Sure the old trademark Manson sounds are there but what new members John 5 and even newer member Skold contribute to the album are golden. It is nice to see Manson let some of his control slip into the hands of his bandmates to offer a more diverse and strong Manson. This album is a masterpiece and should have been the album to follow up "Antichrist..." and "Mechanical..." with every song as amazing as the next. You will also find some of the heaviest Manson material in years as well as some of the most electronic and industrial. This album is amazing and anyone who is a Manson fan will love this work of art. Manson is a musical genious!

Free Music Review: A true artist
Hit: 5 Stars

Being an art major, I actually get Manson. He is an artist in almost all aspects of the word. I think his strengths lie in his lyrics and visual art. I'm a long time fan of heavy music and I love his stuff but there are plenty of bands out there that you can get the same thing from. I'm starting to think there's really nothing left to do with instruments that hasn't been done already in one form or another. But when you combine Manson's music and his very crafty lyrics, then put in his incredible visual art (usually himself) he stands out above many others. Many of my friends are very into copying cds these days to save some money. If you do that with Manson, you are going to lose a VERY important part of what he's giving you. His music can be best appreciated when listening to it (of course) cranked up, reading the lyrics as you go, and looking through the artwork of the packaging or videos. That's when I enjoy his stuff the most. Sure, you can enjoy it a great deal just listening to it, but when all you have to look at is a white disk with some black marker ink on it, you're just not gonna get the full effect. His stuff really needs to be experienced with all the senses. (just hope he doesn't start with any scratch and sniff stuff. I'm not sure I trust that sense to him yet.)

Free Music Review: IMPRESSIVE!
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD is remarkable. Manson has really put something special for us together. This CD will not only bring in some new fans but also keep the old. Those who understand Manson and know a lot of his songs and understand the lyrics should be very pleased. The sound of the CD is somewhat a mix between holy wood and mechanical animal, the sound is definitely very electronic and the main two existing elements are sexual and violent. The lyrics are mostly written n rhymes instead of acoustic guitar or melody. "I've decided to write with rhythms initially this time instead of writing with acoustic guitar or with a melody" says Manson "And I suppose it's probably an influence of rap music being so popular, it seemed like a challenge for me to try to do something better than what's out there, or to do something that's more in the flavor of what we're known for. Not to say that I'm going to do a rap record." His DVD is great it provides a wonderful look into Manson's life including his thought and view on topics such as politics government society sex and drugs. Marilyn Manson takes his inspirations from the glamour of 1930s Hollywood, the grotesque of Vaudeville to the extreme height of cabaret decadence and so-called "degenerate" art in Weimar Berlin just before its destruction.
