Free Music Notes for All the RoadrunningFree Music Review: I thought this would be so good...but Hit: 1 StarsIts so slow and boring its just impossible to listen to. The lyrics are horrible and laughable, the music is terrible and basic, and there is not one song that jumps out at you to remember or that you can even sing along to. Boring, boring and I say again BORING.
Free Music Review: GOD how I wanted to love this record... Hit: 2 StarsBut the truth is they both sound like they're asleep. Knopfler's now-standard Nashville sound is great...for about two cuts. Then it's just a drone. Same with EHarris, same with Knopfler, who seems barely able to finish singing the words, like he's going to faceplant at any minute. Even he's not interested, and he wrote most of the material.
These two should be able to generate some serious heat, but if this is them, I don't want to know them.
Interestingly, there was a PBS Soundstage presentation of a concert of this, and while I found it interesting to watch (because I like seeing how Knopfler plays) I just found it so damn mechanical, just like this record. All the Roadrunning leaves the odometer going 'tick...tick...tick...'
Free Music Review: A little bit of country, a little bit of rock and roll Hit: 4 StarsMark and Emmylou are a great duo.
Free Music Review: Love it, love it, love it! Hit: 5 StarsI've enjoyed Emmylou Harris's work for over 30 years. I had never heard of Mark Knopfler until the night that I heard this CD playing at the local bookstore. I walked back and asked, "Who's the guy singing with Emmylou?" [I am sure there are equally benighted souls who heard it and wondered, "Who's the woman singing with Mark Knopfler?"]
Thanks to the wonders of the Internet, I learned that he'd done the soundtracks for two of my favorite movies, The Princess Bride (Special Edition) and Local Hero.
Most of the songs on this CD are ones he wrote; his lyrics are wry and witty. Their voices work well together. This is a highly singable CD, and the woman you see on the freeway on your way to work, singing her lungs out? That would be me, singing along.
Free Music Review: All the Roadrunning Hit: 5 StarsThe product is what I expected. It arrived on time and in the condition advertised.
