Free Music Notes for Kill to Get CrimsonFree Music Review: The real sultan Hit: 5 Stars
I was impressed with this latest release from the first listening. Unlike some others of Mark's general age group,(Jimmy, you know who you are) who continue to release music that, as Randy Newman so appropriately put it, "sounds like a record that I made, Just not as good!" Mark refines his skills as a writer and producer with every release. I have always been hooked on his lyrics and these are both insiteful and I would guess often autobiographical. My favorites from this release are, True Love Will Never Fade, Heart Full of Holes, Punish the Monkey (I went through this about 9 years ago) and Let It All Go. In addition, I have always been a big fan of his guitar work since the early days of Dire Straits.
Free Music Review: another winner for Mark...and for us, his fans!!! Hit: 5 Stars
This is a work of art. Not one bad song. The songs are truly wonderful, with beautiful music and outstanding lyrics. Follows the story telling approach of the previous album (Shangri La & Sailing To Philadelphia) and is very well produced and mastered. This is not a rock album though and anyone expecting that kind of music will be disappointed. Rather, this is an album that requires you to sit and concentrate and listen to what is being said. My only disappointment is that MK has taken on a backseat approach re his fantastic guitar playing, would loved to have had some more extended solos present. Perhaps in the live versions?
Truly outstanding. A must have for all MK fans...
Free Music Review: A FINE BIT OF WORK Hit: 5 Stars
4 weeks after release I decided to view how others regard this CD. I am pleased that most get it. As others have stressed one must listen several times to grasp its value. The songs are finely written, the instrumentation immaculate. Knopfler takes us through a panorama of moods & emotions. I too miss the gut-wrenching guitar solos. I sense the appropriate places they should have been. I anticipate them, when they don't occur I smile & continue to listen. I agree with others that Dire Straits fans still hanging in will likely drop out. Perhaps this was Knopfler's intent. But those of us who appreciate the diverseness of his solo work & soundtracks will eagerly await his next piece of work.
Free Music Review: "Simplicity" - That's what it is all about Hit: 5 Stars
Guys ... Stop analyzing and enjoy the music !
How does inconsequential analysis matter ? ... limited vocal range, soft folk music .... Why ? I ask...
It's a beautiful, simple set of songs by an artist at the top of his game...If you are looking for rocking songs like "Money for nothing", "Sultans of Swing" ... you are looking at the wrong place. This album is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine ... not a tequila shot. Everything has a time and place ... This is the time for "Kill to get Crimson" ... Enjoy it while it lasts !
As Mark very eloquently put it in this album .... "let it all go"
... Stop analyzing and enjoy the music !
Free Music Review: Wonderfully Relaxing Voice & Sound Hit: 5 Stars
Let everybody tell you the details of Mark Knopfler's style. I'm new to him, this being only my second CD of his, first being "Get Lucky." That became my bedtime lullabye album and I needed this one to keep from wearing the first out. This is just as good, getting me into that late-night mood.
So, I know many folks look at the intricacies of the perfomance; in this case, I just appreciate the effect it has on me. Isn't this a purpose of music? The guy is just darn pleasant to listen to.
By the way, let me note that I got this from Innuendo at a good price, in top (new) condition and shipping almost as quick as Prime.
