Free Music Notes for Kill to Get CrimsonFree Music Review: kill to get crimson Hit: 3 StarsI've always liked Mark Knopflers writing style, and have really
admired his guitar playing abilities ~ my feeling "the best" ever. Something about the tracks on this recording though, leave me wondering what he was thinking. The words don't flow like normal, they feel strained. The music started out the same way, but the more I listened the more it grew on me. Overall the CD is good ~ not great. Maybe my expectations have been so high, that when something just ordinary comes out, I'm just shocked.
Free Music Review: Can't stop listening to it. Hit: 5 StarsI admit that I am a Knopfler fanatic. But, with music like this, why wouldn't you be? Knopfler may be one of the most talented, most respected guitarists in the world, but he is really a storyteller. His lyrics haunt the soul. Heart Full of Holes is eloquent, personal, and sad, but vague and left open for interpretation. The swell of the accordian towards the middle of the song gives me goos bumps everytime I listen to it. Secondary Waltz is light, but not without honesty. Let It All Go is about a failed painter telling the up and comers to give it up while they're still ahead. Madame Geneva's, The Fish and the Bird, and In the Sky are all beautiful, and upsetting at the same time. Mark uses several old time instruments to give the songs a rusty, antique feeling. The only thing this album is lacking is one good rollicking song. There aren't any songs on this album that are like What It Is (Sailing to Philadelphia) or Why Aye Man (Ragpicker's Dream). I can only hope that Mark will give us a song or two that showcases that swinging style that he has perfected over the years. This is not a complaint, though. This album is perfect.
Free Music Review: Another Great Mark Knopfler CD! Hit: 4 StarsBeing a guitar player myself I really appreciat how Mark Knopfler uses his guitar to make his music. His solos and accompanyment are always melodic and beautiful.
Mark seems to enjoy describing people and times in his work. This CD reminds me of his previous one Rag Pickers Dream. It has some of the same elements of story telling in both. If you liked Rag Pickers Dream you'll probably like this as much as I do.
Free Music Review: Marking time Hit: 4 StarsI am a great fan of Mark Knopfler and his music and on my first listen to his new album I must confess that I was not impressed. Having listened to it now a few more times I am starting to change my mind. I now hear more of the musicianship of Knopfler and his skill with molding language into musical poetry. This is not the boppy music of Dire Straits if that is what you might be looking for but it is a delight to listen to.
Free Music Review: Best Album of 2007 Hit: 5 StarsBest album of 2007, by a country mile. Not much else to say, really.
