Free Music Notes for Shangri-LaFree Music Review: Classic Album by Knopfler Hit: 5 Stars
Mark Knopfler's latest album Shangri-La finds the former Dire Straits frontman expressing his more mellow side. Yes the songs are softer than his earlier stuff, but it is beautiful music. The lyrics are those that only Knopfler could write, spellbinding and enchanting. His guitar is also great as always. The single Boom, Like That is no exception. The lyrics are about McDonald's founder Ray Kroc. Favorites include Boom, Like That, Sucker Row, Back To Tupelo, Our Shangri-La, Everybody Pays, Song For Sonny Liston, Whoop De Doo, Postcards From Paraguay, All That Matters, Stand Up Guy, Donegan's Gone, and Don't Crash the Ambulance. Highly Highly Recommended.
Free Music Review: Best music ever done by MK Hit: 5 Stars
This is the best work ever done by MK in his career. I've been listening MK since very young and he is the best guitar musician of all times to me. It took me some time to discover the essence of every song and the concept of this amazing album.
The best song for me is "Everybody Pays". By its music and great lyric, it reached to me very deep. Other hits to me are "5.15 A.M.", "The Trawlerman's Song", "Back to Tupelo" and "Our Shangri-La" of course, but every song is a masterpiece of music and have its own sense.
This is a "must have" album for everybody who likes music, but you've got to give it some time to hear...
Free Music Review: full music Hit: 5 Stars
After the tumble of "The Ragpicker's dream", with at most a few good songs, Mark Knopfler comes back shining bright, maybe more than ever. In "Shangri-La" he gives a record full of wonderful and meaningful songs. Though there are a lot to pick up on this record, I would highlight "5.15 am" about coal miners in England and "Back to Tupelo" as especially evocative. I have never heard a song to Elvis as beautiful, emotive and sung with such empathy as "Back to Tupelo". The most remarkable thing of "Shangri-La" might be a Knopfler showing further improvement at the command of lyrics and messages in complex matters.
Free Music Review: An Amazing Album for the Intelligent Listener Hit: 5 Stars
Mark Knopfler is not in Dire Straits anymore. Many people need to learn that first. This is a fantastic album with well-thoughtout melodies and amazing lyrics. The entire album seems to have a certain groove to it, that keeps you wanting more. It just seems to flow throughout the album, something that many albums today lack. This album shows Mark's vocal range more than any other he has created (including Dire Straits). Don't get me wrong, because I love listening to my old DS albums, but this cd shows how far Mark has really progressed. It is a cd you can keep playing over and over again, and not get bored.
Free Music Review: Best Effort From Knopfler yet! Hit: 5 Stars
This is an amazing little album. I have been a fan for years, but I think this is Mark's best solo effort so far. This album just grooves, with those rich guitar riffs and a sound that echos in your head long after the song has finished. The song "Boom Like That" about Ray Kroc (yep - of McDonalds fame) is pure genius...Elvis, and many others get their own special Knopfler tributes. Some of the best work that DS did was not the heavy handed stuff, but mesmerizing songs like "Telegraph Road." That is where this album wants to take you...to a spiritual sort of place. GREAT STUFF!
