Free Music Notes for Free to Be You & MeFree Music Review: Lifelong Favorite Hit: 5 Stars
I was once identified by my child's music teacher as being part of the "Free to Be, You and Me" generation, and indeed, I was brought up on this album. As I remember it, a controversial and revolutionary compilation that tackled gender stereotypes in the 70's. Twenty-five years later, my children enjoy the upbeat music and the funny stories as much as my sisters and I did. Inspiring equality, authenticity, and self-esteem, this album's themes span generations. If it was a favorite of yours, make sure your children listen too!
Free Music Review: Still just as much fun Hit: 5 Stars
I got this cd, as I am pregnant and beginning to compile child-friendly music for my soon to be baby boy. When I came across Free to Be You and Me, I couldn't resist. I had such wonderful memories from elementary school - watching the "video" and listening (signing along) to the music with my friends and classmates. Now, in my thirties, I am hearing the songs and poems with a new ear...and I still love it! The songs and poems are still so singable, fun and poignant. I can't wait to share with my little one.
Free Music Review: Free to be You and Me Hit: 5 Stars
I love this cd and hope it never goes out of production. I was introduced to it in college and enjoy the message it brings to both boys and girls about independence, different ways of being, and loving who they are. I also really enjoy Free to Be a Family, which has many of the same messages, but directed toward the many different ways of being a family in our world. Unfortunately, it appears "Family" has been taken out of production. I had to find it used in order to give it to my nieces this year.
Free Music Review: A Wonderful Trip Down Memory Lane Hit: 5 Stars
My daughters loved the TV special Free to Be You & Me and enjoyed listening to the music. Now my grandaughters are having fun listening to the CD. It's fun to see what songs are special to each one. My five-year-old granddaughter thinks that "William's Doll" is the best song on the recording. I tend to agree. This is a wonderful collection of songs and skits for every child. It celebrates each person's unique qualities while reinforcing that it's OK to be different. What a treat for the ears!
Free Music Review: Still great after all these years! Hit: 5 Stars
An early birthday gift for my daughter (to be nine in April '07) - she can't get enough of this CD! After one listen, she was quoting bits and bites and getting up to hit "repeat" on the CD player. Cool.
My sister and I loved it as kids and though it's a teeny bit dated, the messages are sound, clear, and still 'work' today. The comedy is great for all ages(who can beat Mel Brooks and Alan Alda?)
So, my review says: get it! Listen ofen! And give it to someone you love!
