Free Music Notes for This Is Easy: The Best of Marshall CrenshawFree Music Review: Hear it all again! Hit: 5 Stars
I already own all of the songs on this cd, but you just have to get everything Marshall does. This collection is notable for 3 songs from the long-deleted Mary Jean and 9 Others cd, one of his best and incredibly hard to find. Maybe Rhino will find it in their hearts to release that one as well.
Free Music Review: Joy! Hit: 5 Stars
The only apt word I could think of for this compilation. He's up there with the Go-Betweens in the "how the hell did this music not make the charts" category. In some ways, I'm glad though; the first listen on my car stereo was one of the highlights of my year so far!
Free Music Review: I loved it Hit: 5 Stars
I really love this CD. I bought it when I was in a nostagiac mood, but I really came to love most of the songs on the CD. Pop music at it's best I think.
Free Music Review: Shame on Me Hit: 5 Stars
I should have heard this music years ago. Don't make the same mistake.
Free Music Review: Comprehensive--But a lot to take in at once Hit: 4 Stars
This compilation came my way after I read a superlative review in Entertainment Weekly. Crenshaw is a taut tunesmith with a knack for brisk, cacthy, sometimes clever songs much like Elvis Costello or the Cars only with a little less "attitude". Crenshaw can do power pop, rockabilly, straight pop . . . he's like Elvis Costello and Buddy Holly united as one. As an introduction this is great. I would guess that his albums would be a good place to start for further listening, though . . . As with alot of power pop, this is alot of music to take in at once almost to the point of exhaustion. Much like Costello and the Attractions Best Of, this is best listened to in small doses so you get a fuller sense of him and can absorb it rather than being bombarded by three minute ditty after three minute ditty.
