Free Music Notes for This Is Easy: The Best of Marshall CrenshawFree Music Review: Solid Compliation Hit: 4 Stars
Marshall Crenshaw does make it seem easy, doesn't he? His songwriting and lyrical abilities complement each other fine and the result is work that always seems fresh and original...no matter how many times I listen. I tnink the fact that he is able to deliver a pop-rock sound with substance and a signature sound is what separates him from his peers. This compilation exhibits this and further adds fuel to the Crenshaw reputation that still is prominate in musically educated circles.
Free Music Review: Almost perfect Hit: 4 Stars
This is two songs short of being a fantasy compilation. "Whatever Way the Wind Blows" (a Crenshaw original) would have been much better in the place of the no-big-deal John Hiatt cover ("Someplace Where Love Can't Find Me") and "Fantastic Planet of Love" should have been included in place of "Better Back Off." Too bad.
Free Music Review: melodic, dancable musical enjoyment!! Hit: 4 Stars
I remember Marshall Crenshaw's small part as Buddy Holly in La Bamba, but it wasn't until earlier this year I discovered Crenshaw's music and became hooked. But I have to wonder, why isn't this guy's very-radio friendly music more popular? I highly recommend this CD , this mix of dance and rockabilly rythyms is a must for any rock and roll fan.
Free Music Review: This is Easy Hit: 4 Stars
There is one great tune on this cd, Someday Someway, and about four other good tunes. Many of the rest of them are too much alike in their presentation, and are not as interesting.
Free Music Review: Questionable Picks, Disappointing Omissions. Hit: 3 Stars
I 'm sitting here with every MC album on my desk, trying to fathom the selections that appear on "This is Easy." On its own terms, I'd give this album five stars, but considering what could have been culled from the 10 albums and other sources, I was somewhat disappointed. I won't bore you with my specific quibbles. But (for example), just one song from "Life's too short?!" If a picture is worth a thousand words, I would say that a song list is also. Herewith, my "Best of:" there she goes again; rockin' around in nyc; not for me; whenever you're on my mind; try; one day with you; little wild one (no.5); yvonne; like a vague memory; this street; they will never know; she hates to go home; on the run; better back off; don't disappear now; fantastic planet of love; walkin' around; somewhere down the line; you're my favorite waste of time; what do you dream of?; theme from "flaregun;" crying, waiting, hoping (fr La Bamba). Burn this list (on your CD-R, that is...)! He is a superb guitarist, by the way... Dick in New Hampshire
