Free Music Notes for Martina McBride - Greatest HitsFree Music Review: The Best of the Best Hit: 5 Stars
Picking the best Martina McBride songs must be like picking which child you love most; there is simply no such thing as a bad Martina recording.Blessed with the most unbelievable beautiful voice in music today, Martina has become known for her powerful yet delicate delivery and her songs with a message of strength and empowerment. The collection provides a wonderful overview of Martina's strengths for the casual fan, and a powerful punch for the dedicated follower of her music. First, as indicated, every Martina hit from the past decade is included, with commentary from Martina in the liner notes. From the signature "Independence Day" to the haunting "A Broken Wing," you'll find flawless vocal performances punctuated with lyrics that reflect a woman who has a strong sense of self and of right and wrong. As a treat for those of us who have everything Martina, there are four new tracks that are all breathtaking in their own way. "When God-Fearing Women Get The Blues" is just a flat-out good time song with a driving beat and a sense of whimsy. "Where Would You Be" features the killer notes that make Martina such a singing legend; I've played this track over and over just in awe of the sheer power of her voice. "Concrete Angel" touches on the topic of child abuse in the most understated gut-wrenching way; as a guy, I don't cry much, but when I first heard the song, I have to admit it got to me. The song is that good. Finally, "Blessed" is an autobiographical track perhaps, with a radio-friendly Nasvhiile sound that you might associate with Faith Hill. This CD is perfect for anyone -- those who are just wanting to get a good solid Martina collection, or those of us who want every bit we can get.
Free Music Review: WOW! Hit: 5 Stars
Back in the early 90's, when Martina McBride was just getting started on a national level, I bought one of the first country albums I've ever owned. It was "The Way That I Am"--a great album, full of to-be hits. Three of the songs from that album made it here, on her Greatest Hits compilation, including "Independence Day", which was really her breakthrough hit.Through the years, I've become even more impressed with her vocal ablilities. Martina has one of the most distinctive voices in modern country. This CD will not disappoint if you're even a moderate Martina fan. From fun songs like "Life #9" to "When God-Fearin' Women Get The Blues" (a new song released with the CD) to more issue-based tracks like "Independence Day", "Love's The Only House" and "Concrete Angel" her very best work is right here on one CD! Even the sweet song, "Valentine" she did with new age pianist, Jim Brickman, is here. But, the one song that she has on here that impressed me the most is new. It's called "Where Would You Be"--a song that is destined to be a Top 10 hit. It shows off the soaring range of her soprano voice. It is a gut-wrenching song that she pulls off so much better than any of her pop diva counterparts have ever managed. I've since seen/heard the video for this song, which she taped live. It is an experience. This 5'4" waif with piercing blue eyes can sing with such power like few I've heard. Martina McBride sings with a great deal of passion that draws you to her music. This is a performer who is the full package--not just a creation of Nashville. You won't go wrong purchasing her Greatest Hits CD.

Free Music Review: Definitely one of the world's most beautiful voices! Hit: 5 Stars
What can I say, I just love Martina! Ever since I heard 'Independence Day' on the radio for the first time years ago, I was immediately captivated by the passion, beauty, and power of this little lady (she's just over 5 feet tall) with a big voice! And since then, she has only gotten better. Even for those who are not crazy about country music, you really don't have to be to appreciate Martina! Martina's music goes far beyond traditional country (the word 'twang' does not apply here, at all!). Over the last few years, Martina has actually been dipping her toes into Faith Hill territory, as far as the evolution of her music is concerned. Both Faith and Shania Twain have opened many doors, and Martina seems to be walking through them. This album is excellent because it not only collects all of her best songs (accept 'Be that way' from "Evolution," which is missing here) and shows how much Martina has grown from the early 90's to just a year ago. The songs come from 5 of her 6 studio albums (there are no songs on this disc from her 1992 debut album) starting with her 2nd album "The Way that I Am" all the way to brand new songs which close this 19-track compliation. Personally, I think Martina is one of the best vocalists on the planet, and the powerful, emotional 'Whatever you say' proves this more than any other song. 'Blessed' 'Where would you be' 'Concrete Angel' and 'When God Fearin' Women Get the Blues' are really just teases until Martina's next all-new studio album. I'm left wanting more than just 4 new songs! Martina's blends contemporary country with blues, pop, and rock with class and ease. Long time and new fans will love this album from start to finish.
Free Music Review: Awesome Singer....Very Strong Career Material Hit: 5 Stars
The country music genre has produced some very talented and strong singers...mainly female. I've never been much of a fan of the men, but the last few decades have seen some powerful divas....Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, Shania Twain and Martina Mcbride. Martina has a set of pipes on her and this GH's shows it...which is probably why for the last two and a half years, it has been a consistent bestseller and has gone triple platinum. There is not a single bad track on here. Some stand-out more than others, though. The beginning is really well put together offering some of her best tracks right away and hooking you. "My Baby Loves Me, "Independence Day" and "Life #9" are all very catchy...especially "Independence Day" which is arguably her best song. "Strangers" is a gorgeous ballad and has very powerful vocals. "Valentine" is a classic love song and has become a wedding staple. "Concrete Angel" was a huge hit for her in 2003 *I heard it every time i tuned into a country station.* "When God Fearin Women Get the Blues" is bit more rockin and stands out with its amusing lyrics and adds a bit of fun. It's great just to sing along to. Martina McBride is definitely a rare and underrated talent. She has a very versatile quality to her voice. I bet she could sing any genre she pleases and I'm shocked that she has yet to cross over to pop radio much like Faith and Shania did in the late 90's. It's all good though because Martina really excells at country as this collection displays. I do not care what genre you are a fan of, this is a highly recommended album!
