Free Music Notes for Martina McBride - Greatest HitsFree Music Review: Whatever You Say Martina McBride is the best! Hit: 5 Stars
One word sums this album up-AMAZING! Greatest Hits albums are always awesome because you basically know what songs are on it and if you don't like them..don't get it. I love everyone of Martina's songs..From "Independence Day" to "Whatever You Say" and "Valentine." The 3 new tracks (not including God Fearin Women): "Where Would You Be", "Concrete Angel" and "Blessed" are great. It's always good to hear a new Martina song. My favorite of these 3 is "Where Would You Be" because it shows her best vocal performances yet. I thought it was cool that she put "Strangers" in this collection even though it was never released. I've always liked this song. She considers it her "Greatest Miss" and I totally agree on that one. I could never give under 5 stars on any Martina album..although I do have one complaint..3 songs that I think should be included in this collection are: "The Time Has Come" (even though it wasn't a big hit, it was her first single..I just thought it should have been included), "Cry On The Shoulder Of The Road" (cuz I LOVE this song) and "Still Holding On" (Also because it's a great song). Just to add one more thing..In my opinion "Evolution" is her best album (besides this one) and if you like Martina and don't own it...then go out and buy it..you will not be disappointed!!!
Free Music Review: COUNTRY WITH SOUL Hit: 5 Stars
Take Linda Ronstadt's clear, strong, perfect voice ... stir in Dolly Parton's authenticity and social awareness ... add a dash of Melissa Etheridge's big, arena-ready sound ... and you'll probably get something very close to Martina McBride. I suppose it's debatable whether Martina McBride is "one of the world's best singers," as her producer Paul Worley gushes in the liner notes of this CD. You won't get any arguments from me, however. McBride is an unusually strong vocalist, regardless of genre. Her voice is unwavering and her phrasing is absolutely impeccable. Straddling the line between pop and country, her performances always ring true whether it's the soaring, rock-flavored "Safe in the Arms of Love," the down-home raveup "When God Fearin' Women Get the Blues," or the hushed heartbreaker, "Concrete Angel."As this CD proves, McBride's material has been magnificent throughout her career. Even the early tracks sound great. It's nice to have a CD with songs that actually say something, too. Sure, there are several love songs, but you'll also find social commentary here and there ("Independence Day," "Concrete Angel") that bites without being heavy-handed. In fact, there isn't a dud here, and when's the last time you could say that about a CD containing 19 tracks? This is country-pop of the highest caliber. Recent Faith Hill converts would do well to pick up this CD.
Free Music Review: A Variety of Martina McBride Hits Hit: 5 Stars
Martina really put much emotion and creativity into her songs. Some of my favorite songs by her on this cd are "My Baby Loves Me," "Independence Day", "Wild Angels", "Valentine", and "Happy Girl". "My Baby Loves Me" is a catchy musical number of someone being appreciated for her natural beauty (the guitar notes used in the song are notable). "Independence Day" is about a very young person who endures a challenging childhood to eventually start a new life. "Wild Angels" is a beautiful song about being watched over with the results of good luck. "Valentine" is a gorgeous song about enduring love. My overall favorite song in this greatest hits collection definitely had to be "Happy Girl" because it serves as an upbeat reminder to find anything to be joyful about regardless of external circumstances, allow your emotions to come out in a healthful manner, and to always strive to find the essence of happiness from within yourself. One the plus side I discovered how enjoyable "Happy Girl" was when I was on one of my walks to boost my joy level(I feel lucky that walking while listening to my favorite music always help to boost my endorphin levels). There are other good country songs on this cd as well(such as the dramatic but soul stirring "Love's the Only House"). This is a great collection to get if you like upbeat and soul stirring country/pop music.
Free Music Review: a fantastic CD Hit: 5 Stars
Martina McBride has got to have one of the best and most powerful voices in country music today. She sings with all her heart, and it shows. I am a huge fan of Martina and I believe that this CD really shines. If I had to pick five of my favorite songs on this album, I would choose: "Valentine", "I Love You", "There You Are", "Where Would You Be", and "Concrete Angel". Each one of these songs is truly outstanding and deserves to be listened to. "Valentine" is a slow ballad with pianist Jim Brickman, very well done and beautiful. "I Love You" is a peppy song about true love... very catchy and downright funny at times. "There You Are" could well be my favorite song on the entire CD. Very well written, and there is a part towards the end where Martina carries out one note for something like twenty-five seconds at full force. It's just amazing to listen to and gives me chills every time. "Where Would You Be" is an honest and thoughtful song, again, with truly fantastic vocals that blow me away. And "Concrete Angel" is a touching tear-jerker about child abuse that everyone should listen to and think about. Every song on this CD is exceptional. If you are a fan of well done country music with vocals that will blow you away, then you will not waste your money on this album. I highly recommend it to you. Enjoy!
Free Music Review: Martina's Hits Hit: 5 Stars
GREATEST HITS takes a retrospect of Martina's almost 10 year career. Starting with her first hit My Baby Loves Me, all the way to last year's hit There You Are, from her EMOTION album. Also included is the non hit Strangers, which is a hit in its own right. What's spectacular are the new songs included in this collection. Blessed is a nice positive, start your day with a smile song. When God Fearin' Women Get The Blues is a hit already, its a fun song for the ladies with a lot of attitude and sassiness. Where Would You Be is one of my favorite songs (along with Concrete Angel), its a powerful ballad about being in a relationship and not knowing how the other person feels, if he doubting or what not. Very powerful song with vocals that will blow you away. Concrete Angel is another "issue" song like Independance Day or Love's The Only House (both on this CD by the way), this time dealing with child abuse. Very heartbreaking, but it offers a glimmer of hope in reference to the line "but her dreams give her wings, and she flies to a place where she's loved". This is the standout in my opinion, very sad and heartbreaking, it'll make you cry. The CD also features liner notes from Martina and co producer Paul Worley, who offer insight on all the songs. Overall a good buy and a must have!
