Free Music Notes for Martina McBride - Greatest HitsFree Music Review: Excellent CD Hit: 5 Stars
I really like this CD, Martina is one of the few women doing real COUNTRY and WESTERN music out there today instead of pop and bluegrass (How CMT could rank Allison Krauss and Patty Loveless over her I have no idea?). The selections are excellent (Although I think "Keeping My Distance" should have been on it), and I am glad to see some light hearted music on it such as "When God Fearin Women Get The Blues" and "Happy Girl". Country has become much to serious for many people's tastes (I think the artist's pay too much attention to the critics (Toby Keith and George Strait are exceptions)and think everything has has to be different and serious, forgetting that the greats (Such as Patsy Cline and Hank Williams) did light stuff too). This is probably the best single disk greatest hits CD of a current artist you can get (Not up there with Strait Out Of The Box though). So go get this CD, you will like it, and if you listen carefully to her lyrics, you will fall in love with her music.
Free Music Review: Shows why Martina is a Star Hit: 5 Stars
This is a great collection of Martina's stuff through 2001. Martina has a powerhouse of a voice. This album was a big part in my coming to accept country singers, instead of just rock or pop. Here are just the best tunes:
My Baby Loves Me - great intro tune, a salute to unconditional love
Life #9 - another high energy hit. Martina tells roaming man he is down to his last chance
Independence Day - stirring song about tragic effects of domestic violence
Safe in the Arms of Love
Wild Angels
Happy Girl - very fun and energetic song
Whatever You Say
Love's the Only House - social commentary by Martina
When God Fearing Women Get the Blues - a funny and energetic song about a straight-laced woman who just cuts loose one day
With 19 songs, most of them winners, this CD is a great buy for the fan and an excellent intro to Martina and modern female country for others.
Free Music Review: Career retrospective Hit: 5 Stars
It may seem too soon for a GREATEST HITS album from Martina, but the timing is perfect. Martina was an artist, that took a few albums to catch on with listeners. Now she's a powerhouse name in country music. The compilation includes 14 hits, from Wild Angels to Independance Day, Safe In The Arms of Love to I Love You, There You Are to Life #9, and more. It's the perfect album for fans, new and old, alike. There is a generous helping of new material though. The album's first single was the uptempo "When God Fearin Women Get The Blues", which became a #1 smash almost immediately. This was repeated with the reflective uptempo song "Blessed". "Where Would You Be" really pushes her vocals to the extremes, and "Concrete Angel" is a terribly sad song about child abuse. Overall a well rounded collection and the new songs were enough for fans to wait for her newest album MARTINA.
Free Music Review: I love MM - Her voice soars to the Heavens..... Hit: 5 Stars
I am a huge music fan & love all types including contemporary country. I knew of MM, but never really heard her music. Then there was one miraculous day when I was flipping through the channels on my TV & her video for "Where Would You Be" was playing on CMT. I was completely captivated & mesmerized by the song & her voice. I was completely infatuated & that day MM acquired a new fan. I went out that day, purchased her greatest hits album, & fell in love with every song. This CD inspired me to buy all her albums & now I have a complete collection. Her voice is so amazing & Angelic. I am so glad that at that moment in time I was provided the opportunity to hear her voice & idolize her talent. Even if you're not a country fan you will be infatuated with her. She is an outstanding performer w/ a voice that gives you chills.
Free Music Review: An Almost Perfect Collection Hit: 5 Stars
Within seconds of recieving my reciept for the new album I was tearing the plastic seal off the CD and inserting the new disc into my discman. I quickly skipped forward to "Where Would You Be" to hear the three songs which I had not previously heard. All I can say is "Wow!" I was completely blown away by the four new songs on the album, as I was with all the previously released tracks when they were originally released. As it was when I first read the track list, my only complaint about this collection is the absence of "Cheap Whiskey" from Martina's first studio album, "The Time Has Come." I realize that while this track wasn't really a great hit for Martina, but I find that her vocals in that song are just so amazing that it belonged on her greatest hits album. Even with that in mind, I recommend this album to everyone.
