Free Music Review: Martina McBride Will Keep You Up Singing With Waking Up Laughing!!!!

Waking Up Laughing marks country music sensation Martina McBride's ninth album release. Martina McBride, a Kansas beauty, has been a veteran RCA recording artist since 1992. She is the four-time recipient of the coveted CMA Female Vocalist of the Year award. With her signature style, a dynamic vocal range and soaring soprano voice, she connects directly to the heart of her audience. There are two sides to McBride; initially she records up-tempo and love songs including her hits "I Love You," "Blessed," "This One's for the Girls," "Wild Angels" and "Valentine."
However, there is a mature side to McBride, where she addresses social awareness issues in her country classic "Independence Day," about domestic violence, whereas "Concrete Angel" and "Broken Wing" address child and emotional abuse, respectively.
In addition to being the solo producer of Waking Up Laughing, this record marks McBride's debut as a songwriter co-writing three of the album's 11 songs including "Anyway," "Beautiful Again" and "How I Feel." The opening track "If I Had Your Name" is an up-tempo pop-country tune and in "Cry Cry 'Til The Sun Shines," McBride shows off her rocker edge, sounding similar to Sheryl Crow in "All I Wanna Do." "Anyway," the album's lead-off single co-written by McBride and the country duo Warren Brothers, showcases her ability to belt out an inspirational ballad about faith, hope and motivation. "Beautiful Again" explores an unwed mother who was sexually abused in her youth, but grows up able to overcome her past through the birth of her new daughter, realizing that the world is "beautiful again."
In "Tryin' to Find A Reason," a song about a failing romance, Martina collaborates with fellow country heartthrob Keith Urban, who lends his harmony vocals and guitar solo to a song that is destined to be McBride's next #1 single. In "I'll Still Be Me," McBride shows off her angelic voice, in a soothing love ballad that she dedicates to her husband and fellow sound engineer, John McBride. "Everybody Does" written by Rachel Proctor, who wrote McBride's 2002 hit "Where Would You Be," is a fun up-tempo song that gives the lucky listener the exclusive opportunity to be mesmerized by McBride's tremendous vocal range.
However, McBride saves the album's two best songs for last: "House of A Thousand Dreams" is an exquisite story song with vivid imagery about a family who is not fortunate with monetary riches, but they are able to survive and live with contentment through their strong bonds of love and family unity. "Love Land," my personal favorite cut of the album, is a poignant ballad which really tugs at the heartstrings dealing with a pregnant woman marrying her sweetheart in Vegas, going through a painful miscarriage, but with the love and support of her beau she conceives again and gives birth to a healthy boy. Overall, Waking Up Laughing is proof that Martina McBride has recorded, produced and co-written another emotionally powerful album with flawless lyrics, simultaneously raising the standards of modern country music.
