Free Music Review: One for the heartstrings
Hit: 4 Stars

It was a long time coming, but Martina McBride finally puts her previously unutilized song-writing skills to good use for three tracks on album number nine, which she also produced. Two of these tracks are straight-up single material - the already released "Anyway", followed closely on the album by "How I Feel". The third is "Beautiful Again", a real tear jerker of a song, dealing with broken homes, abuse, and single parenthood, but which shows that it's possible to focus on the positive and move on.

Tracks to listen for include the opening song "If I Had Your Name" (listen for the guitars and violins); "Tryin' To Find a Reason", a breaking-up ballad featuring Keith Urban; "I'll Still Be Me", a poignant song about endless love, and "Love Land" the emotional closing track.

The high point of the album is undoubtedly the song "Anyway", with its motivational lyrics, and chorus that brings to mind the Joan Osbourne hit song "What if God Was One of Us". As she sings on the track - "You can pour your soul out singin' / A song you believe in / That tomorrow they'll forget you ever sang / Sing it anyway / Yeah sing it anyway". If she keeps singing them like this, I don't think she'll have to worry about being forgotten in a hurry.

The other single "How I Feel" is also an excellent track, and has the potential to become a new Christmas song, thanks to the one line that mentions snow on Christmas Eve. (It worked for Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called to Say I Love You", didn't it?)

Although many of the songs are inherently sad, most of them show some light at the end of the tunnel, so that by the time you reach the end of the song, you get that tingly warm sensation you feel when something tugs at your heartstrings, and that's a good thing.

Free Music Review: Another Amazing CD from Martina
Hit: 4 Stars

Wow...this album us great. Martina combines her amazing vocals, her own beliefs, and is very much in charge. I usually like to rate each song (or at least the best ones)
1. If I Had Your Name: This song is alright. Not a personal fave of mine but those who like poppy country will probably enjoy
2. Cry Cry: I like this song, espacially when I am sad.
3. Tryin' To Find A Reason: This song, with Keith Urban in the background, is amazing in my opion. Martina is baring her soul to us and this song emphasizes her vocal power.
4. For These Times: THis is a very uplifiting song which most people will enjoy
5. Anyway: This, the first single, is amazing. True Martina quality!
6.
7. I'll Still Be Me: This song is nice, but not a standout for me. Maybe those older would appreciat it more.
8.Beautiful Again: This song, which deals with child-sexual-abuse and teenage pregnancy, is one of my favorites. Martina is known for her championing of social causes. This song takes a good look at moving on/being beautiful again.
9. Everybody Does: This song is nice. Written by Rachel Proctor, a struggling artist herself, is cute and inspiring
10. House of 1000 Dreams; Very inspirational about overcoming poverty.
11. Love Land: Very interesting and nice song about marriage and children outside of wedlock.
All in all a great album all the way through....a few low points-but when I say low these would be high points on much of the fluff of today. Martina has done an excellent job!!

Free Music Review: WHAT DOES THE TITLE HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING?
Hit: 4 Stars

After the first two songs on Martina McBride's new CD "Waking Up Laughing" I was sorely disappointed. If I had wanted a poppy Faith Hill CD I would have bought one of those.

But beginning with her duet with Keith Urban "Tryin' To Find A Reason" ("If you're tryin' to find a reason to leave/Stay") Martina becomes Martina again and except for one more misstep ("Everybody Does") delivers more of the types of songs for which she is cherished.

The overriding theme here is perserverance in the face of adversity whether in the instant classic "Anyway" ("God is great/but sometimes life ain't good"), the song about child sexual abuse and teenage pregnancy "Beautiful Again" ("She knows that in the end life gets beautiful/Beautiful again), "House Of A Thousand Dreams" with it's theme of overcoming poverty with love and the brilliant CD closer "Love Land" with it's tale of out of wedlock pregnancy and subsequent Vegas nuptials ("Anywhere I hold your hand is love land").

Add to these the deeply personal "How I Feel," the simple and simply wonderful "I'll Still Be Me" and the optimistic "For These Times" with its bluegrass and gospel influences.

So remember, don't bail out during the first two songs saying Martina's sold out and this ain't country. The wait for the good stuff will be worth it.

Free Music Review: Martina does it again!
Hit: 4 Stars

Great album! Martina has a voice that just won't quit...stunning and powerful. Yes, she's easy on the eyes too! While some feel that she's not "country" enough, I really don't put her in the Faith Hill / Shania Twain camp. She does have crossover appeal, but I think that's a good thing. I like most of the songs on the album..some are better than others. I wasn't even aware that there was a duet with Keith Urban until I read some of the other reviews.

I've always appreciated Martina's style and her approach to incorporating meaningful messages and life-illustrations in her material. I think "Anyway" really deserves the airplay that it's received. It's a great song..sort of in the "Love's the Only House" vibe.

If you are a fan of Martina's, you should pick up this album.

Free Music Review: I will continue Anyway
Hit: 4 Stars

Martina McBride sang a song titled Anyway and this has fit right in my life. I have been through so much in my life from my past to the present and at times it is difficult to live with DEPRESSION. The good lord above has dealt me quite a bit in life but for some reason he thinks I was a person to take it all. In my past a person just left my life, no reason or explanation was given to me, through the years I have lost people due to death and then living in this world today at not being 100 percent happy ,but chose to move to another state after 31 years is insane. Though i have been through so much of good times and sad times, tough times, I have not given up with my faith in the lord. I pray everyday and several times and hope that I continue to be blessed. I just do it anyway . Thank you Martina
