Free Music Notes for Here, My DearFree Music Review: The Soul of Marvin Gaye Hit: 5 StarsIf you really want to know what Marvin was going through during this time of his life, you NEED this album. It is a story of live, love, pain, bitterness, and redemption. It was a personal letter to his wife. He asks questions like "When did you stop loving me, when did I stop loving you?", "Why did you call the police?" and "Why do I have to pay attorney fees?". He also repeated things his wife said to him "You can leave, but it is going to cost you!". Whenever I listen to this album, I feel like I knew Marvin and he was telling a story of love and betrayal. If you are a Marvin fan, put down those radio favorites and get this album. It is a masterpiece.
Free Music Review: Fascinating! Hit: 5 StarsWhat makes "Here, My Dear" such a terrific double album is the fact that Marvin pulls no punches and just puts all of his business in the streets! Recorded as part of a divorce settlement from Anna Gordy, this LP is accusatory, spiteful, pained, angry and at times hysterical! Musically, it's right up there with his classics and even surpasses some of them. "When Did You Stop Loving Me....?" and the gorgeous "Sparrow" are my favorites here, but the entire LP is strong and strangely, very calming at times. The cover art depicting Gaye as a Roman God is a stroke of genius, and worth searching for is an original copy on vinyl for the Monopoly-style fold-out with property to be divided between the two parties ,brilliant! Divorce may be painful and messy, but it sure does inspire some great art and music! A unique and timeless piece of work.
Free Music Review: Highly Personalized Soul Hit: 5 StarsLet's get right to the music first-"Here,My Dear" is a lovely soulful journey through funky stuff such as "A Funky Space Reincarnation","Anger" and the pithy "You Can Leave But It's Gonna Cost You" through more typical Marvin Gaye elaborate space-soul throughout the rest.So musically it works 1000 percent as always but as for the lyrics we must be subjected to an audio recount of an unhappy, failed marriage.Even though he wasn't Mavin makes himself out as a victem of his ex's bitter attempts to keep him from their son and his assets,as well as his obsession with hookers and drugs, which the music aptly explores through it's interweaving music.A phrase from the hit "When Did You Stop Loving Me" sums it all up when Marvin refers to his marriage,"It should'nt be lies/becasue if you don't honor what you said, you lie to god/and the words should be changed".There is much to listen to here both lyrically and musically but like "Whats Going On" if your looking for a more positive, erotic Marvin Gaye album to challange your senses or get you in the mood I can really recommend others because "Here,My Dear" is by no means what you'd call an easy listen,no pun intended.

Free Music Review: Truly Haunting, but worth every penny. Hit: 5 StarsI first heard this album when I took it from my mother's room trying to look for something to scratch (Like most kids do). I was fourteen years old at the time so I didn't really catch on the concept of the album. Now that I am 21, I do own my own copy and REALLY understand what this album means. Marvin was in the process of finalizing his divorce to Anna Gordy-Gaye (Barry's sister). As part of the divorce settlement he agreed to record a record and give all the proceeds to her. Since Barry knew he was going to bash his sister on vynil, he was skeptikal about it's release. He had every reason to be. Marvin recorded with alot on his mind. When you hear songs like "When Did I stop Loving You......" you can truly hear the anguish in his voice. With lines like "What I can't understand is you said you loved me/ how could you turn me in to the police?" You know this had to be one of the most personal if not the most personal albums of his lengthy career. Among the albums highlight are "Anger", "Sparrow", and the title track. Even though this album did not reach the mainstream success as the likes of "Let's Get It On", or "I Want You" it is truly worth the listen. Don't be suprised if you shed a tear as Marvin spills his heart on the table for you to listen. He is a legend and was way ahead of his time.
