Free Music Notes for The CallingFree Music Review: BEST MCC YET ,SHE'S MATURED LIKE A FINE WINE! Hit: 5 Stars
This album is her best yet. If you're looking for some of her more hook heavy styled songs like ,SHUT UP&KISS ME ,I FEEL LUCKY& PASSIONET KISSES,this may not be the album for you.If you're looking for songs with depth, passion and strong lyrical and musical content,BUY IT! She has come a long way since her early days. The more you listen to it the more you will love it. The songs have real heart, depth and meaning. Her vocals are as strong as I have ever heard fom her, both musically&recorded. The recording is impeccable, both strong&clear, with vocals that are super strong. The songs are all strong & meaningful.IF you are not moved by "HOUSTON" there is something wrong with you! THIS IS TRUE AMERICANA at it's Music Review: Another Winner from MCC Hit: 5 Stars
The pre-release hype for this album was, thankfully, not all hype. IMO this is MCC's best album in many years. It's not "Come On, Come On" or "Stones in the Road," but what is? An older, wiser, even more reflective (is that possible?) MCC comes through on this album.
I remember a reviewer of one of her earlier albums, who was impressed with her lyrical abilities, saying that MCC "is an English major who actually attended class." This album also contains the well-crafted lyrics we expect of MCC, and there is a fine mix of upbeat and reflective songs.
Three years since her last album has been a long wait, but we're well-rewarded for our patience. An album to enjoy and savor!
Free Music Review: On and On It Goes - On To My Car CD Player - Trip After Trip Hit: 5 Stars
Mary Chapin Carpenter is a wonderful wordsmith, brilliant poet, captivating storyteller, empassioned social commentator, and wise philosopher. In The Calling she delivers all this with a gentle touch encased in beautiful melodies. I have to confess that this past week I was so taken with On and On It Goes and Houston that I kept hitting the repeat button. I can't wait to discover which one or two songs become this week's favorite, and next week's, and the week after... Because On and On It Goes on to my car CD player.

Free Music Review: Another Great One! Hit: 5 Stars
"The Calling" is another one of those Mary Chapin Carpenter CD's where every song is great! She not only has an awesome voice, but also has an amazing ability to connect with listeners through her "real-life" story telling - singing stories that most of us can relate to, and that at times can cause long-buried feelings & memories to surface within us once again...
If you like folk-rock music, I would highly recommend "The Calling"! And, if you like Mary Chapin Carpenter, I would also highly recommend CD's by singer/songwriter Beth Nielson Chapman - you really can't go wrong with these two!
Free Music Review: Another Winner... Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is more upbeat that MCC's last outing "Between Here and Gone." But as always the music is incredibly satisfying and the lyrics thoughtful, heartfelt, intellectual, all the things any MCC fan has come to expect from what I feel is one of the greatest songwriters alive. Her voice seems to sound more mature on this disc - more "up-front," maybe more vibrant. Any fan of MCC's will love this CD. I also bought "Party Doll and Other Favorites," and my only regret there is that I hadn't bought it sooner. Some classics done live are wonderful - this is also a must have for us MCC fans.
