Free Music Notes for The CallingFree Music Review: BEST TRUE FOLK SONGS--the calling Hit: 5 Stars
I have been a MCC fan for some time. I have all her cd's. The calling has excellent music and is equal or better than Stones in the Road. These songs have political and personal messages which move one to think. The music is awesome and the tunes stick in your brain for some time. I listen to the cd when I work out and find myself humming or singing aloud. Again, Mary has created an album for our times with lyrics and music of the highest quality.
Free Music Review: Another Great One for the Soul! Hit: 5 Stars
When I did my first run-through of this album I didn't think I'd like it. However, after really listening to the songs - it's just as good as the last one! In fact - I haven't taken it out of my CD player in my car for over a week now! I think my favorite has got to be Twilight... I'm generally into more of her faster moving songs if you will..but Twilight just goes straight to my heart. It reminds me of living back home in Vermont.
Free Music Review: One of her best... Hit: 5 Stars
There isn't much I can add that hasn't already been said in other reviews. This isn't quite as good as "Come On Come On", but it's close. "Houston" is absolutely fantastic. If you don't already own anything by Mary Chapin Carpenter, you really can't go wrong with any of her recordings. If you have some of her stuff, but don't have this one, get it today! "The Calling" is another high point in a great career.
Free Music Review: Amazing New Music Hit: 5 Stars
I heard Mary CC on an NPR interview and was intriqued to get this album, having never heard her before. I am not a country fan, but this really isn't a country album, either. The lyrics are very timely, positive and yet at time critical of the "situations" we find ourselves in these days. This is a powerful album by a obviously deeply in-tune singer - refreshing music amid so much that passes as only mediocre.
Free Music Review: Best since "Come On Come On" Hit: 5 Stars
This album proves that MCC is the Dylan of the last 20 years. With her best piano song "Closer and Closer Apart" since Come On's "Only a Dream" to "Houston" which equals "Grand Central Station" from her last album, this CD has many moving moments. What bothers me I couldn't find this album selling at Target or Walmart or Circuit City. I finally found it at Borders. The Calling should be a Grammy nominee.
