Free Music Review: Not "The Breakthrough" but it shouldn't be expected to be!
Hit: 5 Stars

Most popular singers can attest to that one album that is considered by fans and critics alike as being their apex. Michael Jackson had "Thriller," Prince had "Purple Rain," and Mary J. had the multi-Grammy-winning "The Breakthrough." It is unfair to the singers to always compare each successive release with its predecessor for the artists may have different directions and concepts that they wish to pursue.

Mary J, though traveling some of the same roads as her previous works, branches out somewhat with "Growing Pains" with an album that is possibly more pop-oriented than anything that she has previously done, including "The Breakthrough."

"Growing Pains" is a bit of everything that will, no doubt, increase her already large fan base. Riding high on the strength of the first single "Just Fine" and its eye-popping video, the album is a well-crafted blend of R & B, funk, pop, and female angst and strength that can only be done by Miss Mary.

EVERY single song is a winner and each makes a seamless segue to its successor.

Besides that, she looks MIGHTY FINE on every photo in the liner notes!

We all should grow so well!

Free Music Review: MJB the MVP
Hit: 5 Stars

MJB is a force to be reckoned with. She comes out with amazing CD after amazing CD. How does she do it?!?! She knows what her audience likes and why fix something that is not broken. She delivers and does it with 110% on `Growing Pains'.
As with everything thing May J. Blige does she puts every ounce of emotion and rawness into every song on this set. Every song on here is a stand out that it's hard to single out any song. There is everything from classic slow Mary jams to the upbeat dance tracks to songs with a rock twinge fused into them.

My favorites on here include:
"Work That" which has a great beat to it and promotes a good motto - to be yourself!
"Roses" is THE cut!! WOW! Great melody, great lyrics and amazing vocals!
"Work In Progress (Growing Pains" is a song that we can all relate to. Very good

I think the biggest appeal of MJB is that she is very relatable. She sings from the heart and it feels like every song was written for us; the listeners. She is your neighbor, your friend, your sister. Mary deserves every bit of success she gets and this CD is living proof of that! Amazing!!

Free Music Review: A Nice and Chill Album
Hit: 5 Stars

This is Mary's best album, it brings something new and exciting with every song. Work That is a feel-good song definitely. Grown Woman has Ludacris rapping in it, and Mary toughens up for this song. Just Fine is where you can tell that Mary is feeling more than "Just Fine". Feel Like A Woman has a nice beat, and it sounds like a slowed-down club song. Stay Down has yet another great new beat, and an amazing chorus. Hurt is a more somber song off of this album. Mary and Usher are awesome together in Shake Down. Till The Morning is my favorite, and it has an amazing beat to back up her amazing voice. Roses has a very clever chorus. Fade Away has nice piano instrumentation in the background. What Love Is has a soft beat to back up Mary's peaceful singing. Work In Progress (Growing Pains) reminds me of Love by Keyshia Cole, and is another one of my favorites. Talk to Me has a super-catchy chorus. If You Love Me? has a pretty beat. Smoke sounds like a song Mary would have done years ago. Come To Me (Peace) is a very chilled-out song. Overall this album is amazing! Very satisfied.

Free Music Review: As We Grow..We Become Better
Hit: 5 Stars

As MJB continues to grow as a person her music jus becomes more sufficient and important to a whole generation of people. What keeps Blige a fascinating artist is that she's given us something truly applaud-worthy by cleaning up her act - most of us love seeing underdogs triumph at the end - but at the same time, she hasn't forgotten the scars, and she's not letting us forget the scars.
Growing Pains is a another crowning achievement in MJB long list of classic albums. This joint right here is her best work to date and this is coming from a 22 year old. I grew up right along with Mary ..she can teach us men out there how to treat women with the respect that they deserve..I can literally go through this whole album without skipping a single track and that rite there is AMAZING!!! I hope her singles go in this order....

1.Just Fine
2.Work That
3.Stay Down
4.Grown Woman
5.Come To Me(Peace

Free Music Review: Feeling the Pains
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been a MJB fan since 411 and saw Mary at an outdoor concert once and really like the many songs on Growing Pains. There are a lot of great upbeat and empowering songs on this album. I decided to listen to Growing Pains during a recent workout and nearly killed myself...especially when Roses came on. That song really fired me up!!!LOL! I love Mary and I really, really love the song "Smoke". It is so different than what I'm used to hearing from Mary. It also segues nicely into Come to Me (Peace), which is also a bit different than her music production styles of the past. In fact, Smoke is reminiscent of 60 eras style music, almost reminds me of theme music for a tv show, but it really works, despite the song's subject. Although, I really love this album, I still rank "Share My World" as number 1 in my MJB collection. Thank you Mary for the beautiful music! I really enjoy you and the music you share. God Bless You.
